Default Need help unblocking ports on Netgear CG814WG v2 for EQ2

I just switched cable companies and Sony support told me that I needed to open some ports on my modem (email from Sony below, with specifics on ports to open). I can log into my modem to the "port triggering" screen but I cann't get the game to work and its because I can't figure out how to configure my modem correctly. Can anyone help me on this?

(email from Sony)

EverQuest II LaunchPad and Patch Servers
A TCP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to patch.station.sony.com port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com and sdlaunchpad2.station.sony.com port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703.

EverQuest II Patch:
A TCP connection is initiated from the EverQuest II client port > 1023 to patch.everquest2.com, abepatch.everquest2.com, laepatch.everquest2.com, or amspatch.everquest2.com at port 7010. Some of the above patchers resolve to multiple IP addresses, so if you have a strict outbound firewalling policy, be sure to check for all IP addresses using a DNS lookup tool.

EverQuest II Game Client:
UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client port >1023 to servers on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers.

EverQuest II Servers Subnets:
There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.11.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.13.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.*

Tell Comcast you want a new modem, that one fucking sucks and has plagued gamers for a while.

Here's a guide..

It's easier to just go buy a modem of your own and take that one back to the cable company and have them knock the modem charge off your bill, was like $5 a month here.

I have TimeWarner and they basically said they couldn't open those ports for me, they are set when they get the modems (same one you listed). Not sure if this is bullshit or not but I got tired of their tech guys not knowing anything, most of them had no clue what I was talking about.

I tried going with the way Niber linked but for some reason it didn't work for me, don't remember why, been a while.

You shouldn't ever get the gay home networking service provided by your ISP. It'll provide nothing but headaches.

Ask Comcast for a SB5120 or whatever the current model is. They should have an assload. It's just a regular modem, and you can roll your own network behind it.

The Netgear CG814wg v2 has been mass produced and sent out for many ISPs. What these ISP's do not tell you is how to get into ALL of the router's configuration files. So here goes.

Step 1: Go to 192.168.0.1 in a web browser.

Step 2: At the log in prompt use the following. Username = SUPERUSER Password = your default one of, password or whatever you may have changed it too.
DO not use the ADMIN user name as you will not be given complete access to the modem/routers configurations.

Step 3: Under the Content Filtering (which is completely absent when logged in as Admin) choices on the left sidebar choose Services.

Step 4: Firewall Features will most likely be selected. Deselect it and click Apply at the bottom.

Step 5: Disconnect the power from your modem/router after you log out and after 10 seconds plug it back in.

Step 6: Rejoice that you can now play whatever game your stupid friggin modem was keeping you from enjoying!

You shouldn't have to do anything to your modem to be able to connect to EQ2, unless your internet is so shitty that it doesn't let you connect to any port you want outside.

I guess you're missing the point here Pinsky these providers are some of the top rated ISP's in the world (Charter.net, Comcast, TW) but they chose a modem that by default has ports blocked. The text above is from SoE about unlocking the modems firewall. Something that if "2 Firewalls are present" tends to pose a problem with games and other such applications. And if you think it haves to do with a crappy ISP I can't wait until I locate the ISP you use for posting so I can show ya what secure connections are about. You're simply asking to be attacked thinking its only crapy internet connections that cause this.

No, they have ports that are incoming blocked. Outgoing port blocks are stupid and a horrible form of security. See the difference? Blocking incoming ports, sure fine. Blocking outgoing ports? Stupidest mechanism ever.

QFE, fuck their crap, return it, get the regular surfboard (unless you already have it) then look around online (slickdeals.net, ebay, google shopping, etc..) and find a good ole reliable blue linksys wireless router.

Or you could always go through the retardedness above, but even then netgear fucking sucks.

Can't argue with you there. I gave my Netgear back to charter.net same day they came and installed it. Was the shortest installation the guy had ever done. Came put it in and 20 mins later I called him back and said come get it. Give me my abit cable modem back. And I use the Linksys router. I posted the above because friends were having issues and I found the information to disable the stupid firewall on the modem so felt it might help others. Anway cheers for those who say get rid of that crap modem.
