A while ago I complained about a banner ad on this site causing troubles with pages loading for me. 80% of the time I had to refresh the page to get it to load fully. Using someone elses computer today and Spybot's settings are a bit different I found a little more insight as to why this is happening.

On my computer I have Spybot set to automatically and quietly block known malicious ads/sites (not sure what they mean by malicious, could be anything from BAD stuff to annoying pop ups for all I know). I never realized that Spybot blocking some of the stuff loading would stop the whole page from loading up.


On this different computer, Spybot doesn't block them quietly, you get a system window pop up where you manually Deny the site.


EVERYTIME, not just occasionally....every time I get this window popup and I deny the URL, my page doesn't finish loading.


Soooooo, anyone else notice this or have work arounds that won't involve shutting down my URL blocker?

idk, I use spybot to block silently on several pc's and don't have this problem on any of them.

Hey, I know what you're saying Niber. I have no problem with ads, keeping the site going with ads, etc. I was just wondering if there is some scripting bug or something that doesn't allow pages to fully load if part of the page is blocked.

Looking into spybot's resident shield a bit closer I realize it's basically a "naughty active X" blocker. The ad company may have at one time had an ad (whether knowingly or not) that was doing naughty things on the casual, "I only know how to turn it on and check my email" user's computers and got a permanent black ball from Spybot. I personally don't let any active X controllers install on my machine without my permission due to some other tweaks so I should be able to safely shut down resident shield and not worry about the problem anymore.
