Spents hours talking to CSR's and GM's, and local cable company! I need help!
My boyfriend and I logged off a eq2 earlier this morning, and shut down the computers. Did nothing out of the ordinary, just the same as we always do. Once we woke up and tried to log back on, the game shut down at 'loading zone'. It just straight up disappears and goes to desktop.
We have two computers, and two seperate accounts. The computers are linked by a modem, but they aren't networked, and our internet is working fine.
I /petitioned it, and so did my boyfriend. After awhile we got a response. In a nutshell it basically said delete the files in your login cache and the login cache us, and then do a complete file scan. We did that, and it still kicked us to desktop as soon as it started loading the zone. (Happens on every toon, and both computers)
Now, every several times we try to log it, it will accept our password when you first try to load it, but then when the game comes up and starts logging in, it pops up and said invalid user name or password. Then when you try it again with the same user name and password, it works just fine. So I logged onto station.com and did the live chat with a CSR.
He spent 10 minutes telling me how to change my password, never once stopping to see me telling him over and over again that that was not my problem.
Eventually my second /petition got responded to by a senior GM, and he basically told me he has no problem logging onto my toons, and that it has to be our internet provider.
So then... I spend around 4-5 hours with customer service from my internet provider. I have (tried and failed) connected the internet directly into one computer instead of through a modem, made a new user for one computer and tried to boot eq2 that way, ran a spyware, reinstalled and updated drivers, /run cmd, regsur32 softpub.dll, and several other things. Nothing works.
In the end they got incredibly frustrated with me and told me it wasn't their problem, and that I need to contact sony's customer service and work it out with them. They chose to completely ignore me when I mentioned that several hours ago sony's customer service said the exact samething about it being my internet providers fault.
I feel like I've exhausted every option I have. I can't /petition anymore as my current questions are still open, but I'm getting no response from anyone. The game still isn't working for either account or computer, and I'm just looking for some possible insight into what I might be able to do to fix this. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Spents hours talking to CSR's and GM's, and local cable company! I need help!
I spent months with a mysterious error in eq2, EVERYTHING else worked just fine, except I couldnt log in to 1 character on 1 account. I could log in 11 other toons and play perfectly fine, but when I went to log in this one toon it would hang up and crash out.
I just knew this had to be a problem with SoE or corrupted character data or something, but I went back and fourth with GMs and CSRs and they couldnt find anything wrong at all.
I could not possibly believe it was anything on my end, everything else in game and online worked just fine. Then when I got tired of them telling me it was on my end, when I just couldnt possibly believe it, I went out and bought a new cable modem... and havent had a problem since.
I know it sounds retarded but for some reason when your modem is even a litle bit flaky it will severly fuck with eq2. even if there is no indication that anything, at all, is wrong with your modem, try replacing it. if it works, cheers, if not, return the new modem. It'll save you grief in the long run.

We have several different modems in our house (boyfriend is sort of a computer junkie), and we've tried that. The game is still closing when it gets to 'loading zone'.
If this continues much longer though, I might just have to go out and buy a new modem just to say that I've covered that avenue.
The cable company told me I have to uninstall and reinstall the game, which seems a bit drastic to say considering that in the sentence before she told me that she doesn't handle 'game console support' and that I would need to contact Sony, Nintendo, or Mircosoft.
I don't know though, besides loosing a hell of a lot of time patching and reinstalling, does anyone think that reinstalling might help? Wouldn't it be weird though for the exact samething to happen to two seperate accounts within the spam of a couple hours?

Re: Spents hours talking to CSR's and GM's, and local cable company! I need help!
I had a similar problem a while back at my old apartment. Free cable and internet was a perk of living there. One day my ISP decides to block EQ2. Apparently it uses a similar port that other people use p2p and file sharing programs. So while they were trying to block all those ports they ended up blocking eq2s port as well.
I have no idea if it's your ISP trying to block ports people may be using for file sharing but it wouldn't hurt to check it out. Get a hold of the head tech at your ISP if you can. He will probably be the only one that knows a damn thing about what (if any) ports are blocked and he can also monitor the ports as you try to log into EQ2 and get to the loading screen. SoE uses different ports for the Station Launchpad and EQ2 servers.
I ended up with the same problem as you I think, I could login to station and update the game but it would crash while trying to load the zone. It took a lot of hassle to figure it out and like I said I ended up having to talk to the main tech for my ISP to finally get the issue resolved. He ended up unblocking the port EQ2 servers ran on only for my modem and no others. If this is your problem and your tech tells you theres nothing he can do you can tell him to fuck off because he literally had it unblocked for me in a matter of seconds when he figured out the exact port number so I can't imagine it's that hard.
Hope some of this helps.

If it happened on two computers at the same time patching won't help a damn thing. I tried that over and over. It wasn't until I exhausted all my options, on both my laptop and desktop, did I realize there was something going bad somewhere between (not at) my computer and EQ2 servers which is why I harassed my ISP diligently until they fixed it.
It could still be your router but if you can run other games (when It happened to me I opened up a free WoW trial account and was in LoTR beta and they both worked fine. I found out though that Torrents were blocked because of WoW because I had to go to IGN to DL the patches which was another thing that led me to realize it was my ISP) just fine then your probably looking at an ISP issue.

Re: Spents hours talking to CSR's and GM's, and local cable company! I need help!
We had a similar problem not that long ago except in our case it was a zoning issue - constantly stuck on "Waiting Entities" screen. The GM's could move our characters about as could our Guildies - but we couldnt get passed that damn screen. In our case it seemed that certain zones were affected after an update by Sony. (This has happened twice now). In the first instance a new router solved the problem, the second time it was as simple as turning the router off - leaving it ten minutes then turning it back on - problem solved. sorry Im not techno minded in the slightest - it had something to do with "ports", which were reset after attending to the router - or some such - anyway, I feel your frustration and good luck with sorting this.

Re: Spents hours talking to CSR's and GM's, and local cable company! I need help!
Thanks guys for the advice. I'm going to try getting a new modem and just hooking it straight into one computer.
First though I think I'm gonna try my cable company again, and talk to them about what Celer said. I mentioned to them one time that soe customer service said something about our internet provider possibly blocking eq2, and they just went nuts and said under no circumstances do they block anything, and blah blah blah.... basically made me wonder if it wasn't them after all.
I guess I'm just gonna have to start getting rude with them, that seems to be the only thing they respond to.
