Default Graphics card settings help

I have had a problem for quite awhile with not being able to play everquest 2 without seeing graphical errors.

the symptoms i have having are glitches at random times and shapes on the screen. Background going dark in random locations and only one direction sometimes all around. Screen goes haywire with what looks like shards of funny colors and crashes eq sometimes my computer. If it doesn't crash my computer after it closes it leaves patches of funny colored pixels all over my screen. I also loose objects in game such as my characters head, other characters arms, talking bubbles move to the upper left of my screen. Also my fps drop to 1-10 in most of the jarsath wastes and instances in JW.

I have tried everything i can think of. i have changed my two 8800 gts out for an ATI Radeon 3870x2 gpu. I have changed from vista to xp. All my drivers are current. So there must be some setting in everquest or my graphics card that is not set that i don't know. I could use some help with this.

I have tried with Sony to get help but none of their solutions work.
Their solutions were:
Delete Cache build new one
Reinstall Direct X
Remove all UIs and redownload
Reinstall the whole game

If you are thinking my GPU is defective well i don't think so. It did this from day one which was less than a week ago. Also i know it is some wrong with everquest 2 because i can play Crysis on extreme settings and have no problems with the graphics.

My system specs
QX9650 quad core processor
ASUS Striker II Formula motherboard
Creative X-FI Fatality Sound Card
AGEIA Physics Accerelator
Sapphire ATI RADEON HD 3870x2 GPU

If you have any suggestions thank you.

Well initially it sounded like artifacting from overclocked cards but then if its fine in other games apps then this shouldn't be the case. I would say that this sounds like graphics card drivers, have you tried using older drivers, just in case? You stated all of SoE's recommendations and never mentioned anything about drivers. All I will say is that I know that ATI do sometimes have problems with drivers (or at least this used to be their achiles heel) so I would look into older ones, just in case.

Oh and also know that EQ doesnt use dual/quad core optimization and so sometimes this can conflict with sound and graphics stuttering, particularly over time. If the above drivers don't help try the old CTRL-ALT-DELETE and set your processor core affinity to just one of the cores. i doubt that quad core would cause this problem but it may be worth giving it a go as it takes under 60 seconds to do. This is assuming that the quad core was also an upgrade of course. You didn't state that it was or not so added this anyway.

Oh yeah and have you tried going switching off SLI mode? As I've said before this shouldnt affect anything but with the EQ engine you just never know

Anyway good luck with it, I know how frustrating these things can be..

It could be possible you are experiencing some overheating with your GPU's, what type of case/cooling do you have? Do you ever get any blue screens?

Okay to answer the questions. Yes i have tried other drivers all of the 8 series catalyst. I have a huge thermatake system so the case is cool. i also have the fan speed increased on the gpu. It runs at about 40-50 degrees celsius. Also not sure how to take my card out of sli. the 3870 x2 is 2 512MB graphics card in one gpu. There is not two cards with an sli bridge.

Also an update i downloaded GU 45 today and had no problems for like 3 hours. Then i got the shattered screen and when i reloaded the glitches were back.
