Default Nothing to do with EQ2 but....

Figured that I would ask.

I have lost count how many computers and networks I have set up but I am getting some weird shit happening after I did a factory restore on my wifes laptop.

I am trying to connect to microsoft update site for all the patches and it keeps timing out. I can get to other sights like google, eq2 flames fine ....just not that damn microsoft page.

I thought maybe it was the encryption on my wireless network so I hooked up the laptop to the port on the router that my desktop uses and still can't connect.

I thought the internet either worked or it didn't.....none of this selective shit.

Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to fix it?

I believe its an issue with Microsoft updates, something that it did that prevented itself from connecting. I can try to find an article later about it.

Edit, try this:

http://windowssecrets.com/2007/09/27/03

Or you can always try installing Sp3.

Thanks for the response Pet.

I read the article and did as he suggested but it still didn't work.

I then tried a fresh install using my XP disk for my desktop....loaded all the drivers and the same thing happens. I have no damn idea what is wrong.

It just doesn't make sence that I can open some pages but any time I try to connect to any windows site the explorer times out like I don't have an internet connection at all.

I can't even connect to the windows authentication site to register the copy of xp.

I don't think the nic card is bad because then it wouldn't work at all, right?

Do you have a router? Maybe some stuff got blocked.

Nic cards can be bad and still work. I've had some pull ip's and not get online but only blocking Microsoft seems weird.
