My next purchase will be an ATI card no matter the performance/price differences between the two companies top runners.

Same with cpu, I am going AMD, tried and true. The only intel cpu I have ever owned is in this laptop I am on, and it runs hotter than shit (tho it is a p4 2.8 ghz).

My opteron 148 is still running cool as hell, even with a 30% OC for the past 2 and a half years. I still have a problem with my 7800gtx/ko radiating heat into my entire case, had to buy two aftermarket fans, one for cooling the card and pulling some of the heat out the back of the case, the other a slot fan pulling air out of the entire case (aimed to suck from around the video card).

Anyways, after all that, I just mean to say, fuck Nvidia, hope they disappear like 3dfx did.

If you seriously go AMD for a desktop processor over Intel, you're on so much crack its kind of disturbing.

Also, nVidia isn't going to disappear, they're about to get bigger. If anyone disappears it'd be AMD, they're in a lot of financial trouble.

Looks like AMD shares are a whopping $6.21 today, where nVidia is $19.37 and Intel is $22.13.

AMD started off good with the Athlons and all the way up until the early K8 days, because Intel failed with the P4 and didn't want to move the Pentium-M to desktops.

AMD slowly ramped it up, while Intel started ramping up the Pentium-M. AMD didn't do anything to combat the Pentium-M line(Core, Core2), and ended up falling behind because Intel could make a good chip, they just were trying something different(NetBurst) and it was horrible and overpriced due to a fuckup of licensing.

Nehalem looks to be the Processor that kills off AMD with the fact that it's 20-30% faster clock-per-clock than the Core2.

AMD is re-entering the K6 days. They need to break out with a new CPU that's redesigned and not just the K8-rehashed. Fact is, if you're buying a CPU today and you buy an AMD CPU, you're wasting your money. Buy an Intel now, or wait for Nehalem.

ATI well, they're fine really(of course owned by AMD kind of hurts them), they still fight tooth and nail with NVIDIA, but who knows how things go there. It's about equal on that front.

Purchased this one as well, very happy with the performance of the card thus far. Running Extreme Quality with good FPS, running a Q6600 CPU wit 4GB Ram as well on Vista 32 Ultimate.

If you haven't checked out the 177.39 drivers yet, you may want to check them out, includes the Physx updates for the GT200 cards.

yea on the CPU front hands down Intel right now, the wolfdale chips are very drool worthy and Nehalem is going to be even better.

Back to video cards, toms has a new review on the 4870, seems it is hanging in there between the GTx280 and Gt260 and actually outdid the Gtx280 on like 1 or 2 benches. I am fanboy of whatever is best taking price into consideration. I have never been into bleeding edge (don't have the budget) so the 4800 is perfect for me since it hangs very close to bleeding edge for much less.

Should be interesting to see how the 4870x2 does but like was mentioned above you can have issues with it running great in some games and others that aren't optimized and may not scale well with crossfire.
