Web site question

So just being on and around this site and playing web based mmos i have a question

Can you make money on the adds your host?

I think at some point a read on this site that every time a page refreshs
new adds load and more money is made am i correct here?

i ask before i think it would be fine to build and release a web based mmo and i was wondering if it would be possible to make money with not even selling it but just having the adds there cover costs

Can't make enough to cover server and development costs. Popups are 99% of our revenue and we barely cover hosting.

I believe our page view ads average around 5$ per million.

Our May:

Cut off, but it goes Impressions/Clicks .. and the last one is $.

besides the donations and stuff, anything other money generators besides adds and the pop ups

how much is a cheap server(?) per month

Ours is between $300-500 but for something as complex as a MMO (more queries) I'd say you'd need multiple servers.
