So i just installed a new video card in my desktop, because "my hardware has changed drastically" I have to re-enter my xp activation code, which I have legally...anyhow so at the little log in screen I press yes and it logs me in and immediately logs me out, and I'm stuck in this loop where I can't enter the activation code, does anyone have any idea what I could do? I would reformat but I don't have my xp discs anymore and Microsoft service hasn't helped at all..

isn't there an 800 number you call and an automated system you deal with that'll give you the appropriate code? it's been a looong time since i had to deal with that, so it's all vague memory now.

Under Safe Mode, this will stop the chain rebooting and allow you to enter a key or call Microsoft.

Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. In the left pane, locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrent Version\WPAEvents
4. In the right pane, right-click OOBETimer, and then click Modify.
5. Change at least one digit of this value to deactivate Windows.

The problem is I can't even log into windows to do that because I have to enter the key to log in and it won't let me...

so I did what you said, but it didn't really help me, I still can't log in and enter my activation key because I can't enter it in safe mode, and it's not really chain rebooting, it just won't let me log in in normal mode.
