Default Video Card?

Hi all, I would like to be able to not lag while playing while my permormace setting to "balanced" or 1 above. I don't run programs at the same time I run eq, except maybe 1 firefox window up. And lately I have been lagging horribly. It didn't really happen much before, but since the last patch, I've had nothing but lag unless I go to "high performance" or "Extreme performance". I petitioned and asked but they just told me to defrag my drive. This computer is 4 months old and I really doubt it's my PC. Unless for some reason, the devices I have aren't good enough for the game anymore.

I'm currently running on a P4 3.4Gig, 2Gb of RAM,NVidia GEForce 7300SE vid card. I've been looking around the forums but I don't know whether I'd be better off getting another video card or just upgrading the ram.

Any suggestions would definitely be appreciated. Thanks!

Totally agree, the graphics card you have is really the weak point in your setup. You don't have to go crazy if all you mainly play is EQ2. A 7900gt or something around that will certainly help and be best value for the money.

There are better graphics cards out there but the above recommendation is squarely based on value and the benefit seen by EQ at this current time. The single core processor you are using is also perfectly suitable for the task as the games engine doesnt utilize multi core setups.

An extra gig or 2 of ram certainly wouldn't hurt either, but please understand these recommendations are in no way future proof.

Would be wise to upgrade both, especially if you run FireFox in the background. FF uses more memory than you'd think.

I installed EQ2 for shits and giggles the other day to see if it still ran like shit on my rig, as I did a massive upgrade. I figured it would, but I wanted something to waste my time for a few minutes, and they're letting inactive accounts play for free until some time in July.

My system:
Q6600
8GB PC6400
2x8800GT 512MB
Vista Ultimate x64 SP1

Still runs like ass. High Performance is the only mode where the framerate is consistently high under normal circumstances, and I'd bet money that raiding would still require switching to Lego mode.

You're doing something wrong there then or your PC is :P.
I have the C2D 6600 @ 3.6, 2 GB RAM and the 8800 GTS and I can run High Quality easy in every situation except raids (Particle effects cover the screen making it hard to see anything =x), that's at 1920 x 1200 with 16AA and 16AF driver side enabled.

I can run High Quality, but I won't maintain 60fps+ doing it.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I'm just gonna say "fuck it" and go get myself a new vid card.

Also, I don't really know what's going on but since yesterday, I haven't been able to get over 8fps in "extreme performance" it's fucking ridiculous. I took my 56 warden to new tunaria and the whole group was warping, looked like they were all ghosting. I would have them standing right next to me, I cast a heal and it says "you're too far away", 4 seconds later, the tank will be 100 feet away from me.

I don't really know what the hell is going on, I haven't made a single change to my comp other than updating my video card drivers a week or so ago. I used to run 20-25fps minumum before, now It's just not playable.

revert to older drivers then, that's probably the immediate problem. still, an e8400 and an 8800GT (best bang for the buck card out) with a new mobo and 4gb of ram will put you in a position now that could last you for another 2-3 years in gaming if you get an SLI mobo to get a second 8800GT or a quad core cpu later.
