Extreme lag problems.

Around last April I was forced to quit the game because every time I got into a group my client would lag so bad, it would slow down my internet browsing speed as well. I recently came back to the game and the lag is worse then ever, every few minutes my ping shoots up 1k+ and packets start getting lost

I'm playing on satellite internet and right now it feels worse then dial up when I play EQ2, I have never had this problem in any other MMO.

Any tips? thanks~

satellite link has a delay of about 2 seconds to you, whereas your uplink has like 60ms delay (ISDN mostly). i dont think you could play ANY multiplayer game via satellite and not get lags

I play FPS and played AoC fine. It used to play eq2 fine until last april, I mean is there anyway to optimize it?

hm... only way i could explain this to myself is this:

youre having a satellite connection and a isdn channel as usual. but my guess would now be, that your isdn downlink is also used, if youre not doing anything exceeding 64kbit/s... like FPS. now the satellite connection is beeing used when those 64kbit/s are exceeded, which can happen when it comes to grouping in eq2

what delays do you have when playing FPS? because regular satellite connections have 2sec+ delays for everything you do, rendering onlinegaming completely impossible

Well I think my satellite connection is a little different from most, there is a dish on my house that is pointing to a water tower a ways off which connects to my local provider.

I dont have a FPS installed atm but i used to play counterstrike and battlefield perfectly fine.
