Default High Definition Laptops...Interesting

HP Announces New Laptop Models; This time, in Glorious HD | Maximum PC

Apparently Sony already has something similar out, I just haven't been paying attention I guess.

The HDX X18 seems pretty good for the price of $1,550:

Windows Vista x64 w/ SP1
Intel Centrino 2 - Core 2 Duo @ 2.26Ghz w/ 3mb L2 Cache, 1066mhz FSB
4GB DDR2 Ram (2GBx2) w/ 8GB max (Note they don't list the memory speed...)
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT w/ 512mb
500GB HDD (2x250GB 5,400rpm SATA)
Blue-Ray Rom Drive, DVD+-R/RW Double Layer
18.4" Diagonal Screen, 1920x1080p
WiFi, Bluetooth, yada yada usual goodies
Full Specs: http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content...icture-122.png

Man if I hadn't bought this Toshiba I might have given this Laptop a spin, the specs are pretty good at $1,550, but you've got a Blue Ray player and HD screen in there too, not bad. There's a cheaper version, the X16 for $1,300 which sacrifices the Blue Ray player to be less expensive.

Maybe I'm confused, but uhm, you can get Dell 15" widescreen laptops that are 1920x1200 and have been able to for a while now?

This isn't exactly new.

They're High Def screens with 1080p capability of the X18 and the 720p of the X16?

If a LCD Screen is 1920x1200 that means they *gasp* have 1920x1200 pixels which means they can display 1080p content! They're not new, in fact I would say they're like 3 years old technology.

Indeed, this is just smart advertising. Most people fall for it cause it says 1080p!

Edit: It's more because of the Blu-ray player

I still like how some think that dvi and hdmi are different quality

But anyways, like the above have said, eh, gimmicky. Also, I have a ps3 connected to my 42 inch 1080p, why use an 18" screen? GF just got a laptop last month for 350$, nice one 3gb of ram, dual core yadda. Also got like 40-50$ knocked off afterward for a price error, which they price matched to in form of a gift card.

*edit*

Oh yea, you can also get a laptop with hdmi output, 4gb of ram etc, for like 500$ these days...

Link for those please. I want a laptop that I can play current games on, has at least 3gb ram for Vista Home Premium 32, or 4gb for Vista 64. I don't believe you can get a laptop to play current games on for 350-500. If so, please prove me wrong.

Dual-Link DVI > HDMI, because HDMI is just single-link DVI.

DisplayPort = Dual-Link DVI.

Sadly I'm agreeing with Lao.

Where the fuck do you buy gaming laptops for that price, assuming you're just an average joe without connections...?

A damn Centrino 2 and 512mb-1GB Mobile GPU together cost about that much on their own.

For some reason, everyone always prefaces their agreements with me with "sadly" or "I can't believe this" or something along those lines lol
