Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
So yahoo answer's is a piece of shit, so I'm going to come here to ask and add in a reward.
I just reformatted and in my documents and settings folder there still is the old my documents folder pre reformat, which would be great and all... but I can't open it. It says that the access is restricted. :\
The first person to give me a working solution will receive 100p free on unrest!

Re: Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
Uhm, login as Administrator and change the permissions?
EDIT:
You obviously didn't reformat, tbh.
ala, http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308421
Assuming you're using XP.
If Vista:
Open a command prompt as Administrator and do:
takeown /f c:\path\to\folder
icacls c:\path\to\folder /grant yourusername:f

You must have an HP Computer.
But anyways, its a permissions issue.

Re: Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
yeah, right click the folder you cant get into, properties, security tab, advanced, ownership tab. select your account, tick the "apply to subfolders", click ok, ok, then at the security tab, "add", then add your account, full permissions and tick the "apply to subfolders" and untick (if selected) then "inherit from parent". if might complain about replace/copy, select copy. click apply.
One thing to note, if you had XP and you installed Vista, the my document folder is in a different place
XP - c:\documents and settings\username\my documents
Vista - c:\users\username\documents (or something close)

Re: Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
-I'm using windows XP
-My computer is not HP
When I went to reformat usually I would delete the C: drive that was full but it said this time that it wouldn't let me because windows needed it to reinstall, so with no other options I just installed windows overtop of it. And tbh my computer is running slow as shit with like 100gigs or so of crap in that my documents folder.
There is no securities tab btw, just
[general][sharing][customize]
And I can't move it into shared documents
edit-> I'm considering using Kill Disk and starting over, but there's a couple things in that folder I still want to save

You're in safe mode, logged in as Administrator and there's no Security tab?

Re: Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
Try this.
1. Click Start>My Computer
2. Tools>Folder Options
3. Click the View tab
4. Scroll to the bottom an uncheck "Use simple file sharing"
5. Hit OK.
Now when you right click on you old my documents folder and go to Properties, you should have a security tab. Click on it.
1. Click the Advanced button.
2. Click on the Owner tab
3. It should give you an account to give ownership to (Most likely Administrator)
4. Check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
5. Click OK and wait for a few minutes as it swaps the NTFS permissions.
I hope it works. My toon is named Fatchops on Unrest. I just came back to the game and can use the plat!

Re: Want 100p on unrest? answer my question!
You should have a copy of whatever important files backed up on a flash or external hard drive. For you to care about losing stuff thats on your computer in 2008 is silly. Nows a good time to invest $10-$100.
Nuking and installing a fresh copy of Xp takes me under 30min. Guess how long it should take you? Under 30min. It is extremely simple. The only potential issue when done is getting whatever drivers that were not installed. Usually Nic, Sound and Video. I download them from the manufacturer while waiting for Xp to install.
