Default New nvidia drivers promise performance gains

GeForce Release 178

Quote:
  • Single GPU increases up to 11% in 3DMark Vantage (performance preset)
  • Single GPU increases up to 11% in Assassin's Creed DX10
  • Single GPU increases up to 15% in Bioshock DX10
  • Single GPU increases up to 15% in Call of Duty 4
  • Single GPU increases up to 8% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
  • 2-way SLI increases up to 7% in Bioshock DX10
  • 2-way SLI increases up to 10% in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts DX10
  • 2-way SLI increases up to 12% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
  • 2-way SLI increases up to 10% in World in Conflict DX10
Wonder if it will result in increased performance gains in eq2.

Not unless it includes a new engine for EQ2. The Quake Wars gains sound good, though.

So it looks like some DX10 and OpenGL2.0 tricks.

There is a fix in the drivers directly relating to eq2 and huge screen resolutions also.

Quote:
• GeForce 8300/8200/8100: EverQuest2–the game shows geometric corruption at resolutions higher than 1280 X 1024. [445460]

I didn't even know those cards existed... what are they, mobile chips? I keep getting *800ish cards of each generation, heh.

But yeah, I'm skeptical of EQ2's engine benefiting from driver optimizations at this point.

The new version still didn't fix what the 175 drivers broke for me. Which was player controlled brightness/contrast/gamma/color adjustments. The adjustments work in the nVidia panel, but since I installed the 175 drivers, my video player's controls don't affect it.

Using my monitor's controls is super annoying.

I remember people complaining about those being broken within EQ2 and that there was sliders in game to fix it.

Completely different issue. You're talking about 3D graphics gamma correction. I'm talking about video overlay color controls.

Found a replacement.

http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper

I hear it fixes some issues with leftover driver registry entries and miscellaneous files that were not deleted properly upon removal of the software.
