Default New computer

I am sure everyone asks this but with xmas approaching and gaming season kicking hard.......what is the best computer on the shelf or online ordering for eq2? My budget is 1,000 to 1,500 for the CPU alone. I have all the other assessories. It would need to come with OS and general software package but those can be tailored in the ordering process.

If options are available which video card company complys with eq2 better?

Thanks for the feed back.

I have a feeling when he says CPU, he means the entire enclosure and the things inside of it. Though that was more of a term people would mistake in like the 90's... so maybe I'm wrong.

I'd probably agree with you here but if he is serious about $1500 for a CPU then look no further than the Core i7 Extreme 965 next month.

Buy components from New Egg, build your own and enjoy a nice bloatware free, BS free PC.

It was the first PC build for me since 1998ish and it was stupid simple compared to what it used to be a decade ago.

Built my current PC,
AMD 5400 Black edition X2
Ati 4850
Biostar TA780G Motherboard
4gig ddr2 800 ram
Coolermaster elite case
Seagate 500gig HD
550W power supply
Windows vista 64
Couple extra fans, cpu cooler, optical drive, card reader, themal paste.....ect.

For just under $800 including shipping and tax ( during NY state's short lived attempt at collecting tax on out of state purchases, which was both illegal and completely fucked up IMO)

Can run Crysis smoothly on high settings, raid SoH also on high setting with no problems. With out even having OC it .... yet.

Also since Mobo supports Quad cores and DDR3 so upgrading in the future is a simple swap away.

The intel fanboy's have their benchmarks and will surely brand me an idiot for going AMD/Ati, but I <3 my PC. It works damn well on the cheap.

One dissclaimer, if you decide to go with the 4850 or 4870....do the fan mod while you enjoy the nice, stable Ati drivers. (i usually run the fan at 40 with little noise and nice temps, not 60 or 70 like those who have done the walk throughs published on-line)

Why would you buy AMD in 2008?

Better price per performance, as AMD spec mobo's are also usually a bit cheaper as well as the cpu's.

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core black edition Processor - Processors - Desktops
+
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TFORCE TA780G M2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

= $156
For an easy to OC, upgradable platform.

Factor in a bit of fanboi along with being on a tight budget.... the result is AMD.

My PC isn't uber, but for under $800 it does what is asked of it and does it well.

I would recommend the parts below to anyone before I'd recommend the AMD stuff you got. (Background I've had AMD since athlon but my next system is Intel) AMD is great they just can't compete with their current lineup right now.

$84 Newegg.com - ABIT IP35P LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

$84 Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

X-bit labs - Two New Cut-Offs: Core 2 Duo E7300 and Pentium Dual-Core E5200 Processors (page 6)

Not sure the OC'ability on the AMD you got but the E5200 is known to overclock to 3.8ghz from base of 2.5ghz. If you want to pay $40 more and get the E7200 they overclock to 4ghz + have a bit more cache. Personally I'm going for a E8400 later this year because it is in my budget.
