Default dual box error 4/14/09

I have been running two accounts on my computer forever without any issues... untill this afternoon.

All of a sudden I am getting an error message when I try to run the station update to log in my second account.

Here is the text of the message that pops up:

"There was a problem moving C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\lp_temp\ui.log to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\ui.log"

I have tried searching the forums but I have not been able to find any answers - any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

are you by any chance trying to patch the client, thats already running? because thats not gonna work because the files are locked (opened) and thus cannot be deleted (moving involves deletion)

if youre dual boxing then ffs, either install 2 clients on separate hard disks and/or at least dont start the patcher every friggin time you try to start the game (use everquest2.exe for direct access to teh game)

I've used the station launcher forever this way:

Load up an instance of station launcher, log in to one account fully and get into game on one character.

Click the icon in system tray for launcher, log out and into second account. Launch game fully, move to second monitor.

Never had a problem until yesterday and that silly patch.

Just using the station launcher for the 1st instance and the eq2.exe for the second.

The launcher is nice cause it saves all your login/pw info when you have lots of accounts to manage, so you don't have to key it in each time.

I don't really use more than one character, but I do use a shortcut that fairly easily bypasses the patcher and only requests your password.
Code:
cl_autoplay_world SERVERNAME; cl_autoplay_char CHARNAME; cl_username SOENAME
If you put the above into the Target field of an EverQuest2.exe shortcut(after EQ2's filename, not inside the quotation marks), it will launch the client, ask for your password and then bypass character select into who ever you typed above as server/character.

I know this is probably a strange idea to you, but I have my 2nd eq2 account in a whole different directory, which means it has it's own updater/launchpad.

I've never had any problems. if i need to update profit ui or eq2maps, I update the original program and just copy the files I need over to the 2nd account, though i'm sure I could easly set up eq2maps and profitui to update it also.

Sure, i'm using an extra 15gbs of space or something, but when I'm paying less then $100 for 1TB drives...

You guys should really read up on NTFS junctions and hard links - you don't need to actually have two copies of a file to have it appear in different places in a file system. I have 7 EQ2 installations on my box (one for each language, test and beta), I would have gone crazy if I'd have had to update them all separately or if they were using up much additional diskspace.
