Icon14 Multiple BSODs in two days - RAM error?

Yes, I know I am terrible with computers. That being said...

NOTE: I haven't installed any new programs or drivers except Ccleaner which was yesterday afternoon.

Two days ago, I was playing EQ2, blah blah blah, then suddenly a BSOD pops up. I didn't catch what it said. I restarted, whatever, it didn't appear again.

Yesterday, it pops up again with "IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL" - so I google it on this laptop and it apparently means bad ram or drivers. I ran the computer in safe mode since it let me that time and the device manager said the graphics/processor/whatever was OK.

It lets me into the computer itself without safe mode. THEN I get "registry_error" BSOD

I dusted out the computer itself and successfully got in without safemode, downloaded Ccleaner as instructed by friend, thought it was going to fix it up, I removed old registries but provided backups in case etc. Everything seemed OK.

Then later tonight I got this shit:
Another BSOD. Well that's great. It also took multiple restart button pushes to get past the very first thing that starts up on the computer (the "Main Processor(tm)2 Duo 2.20 GHz (200x11.0) and Energy Star logo at top and "10/26/2007 - MCP73-6A61NB0-2C00 AND "Press F8 and so and so for setup/etc." at the bottom.) Pressing F8 doesn't do anything, also both the mouse and the keyboard are not lit up.

As I said, I get by multiple restarts, the rest of the very first startup screen goes by, keyboard and mouse light up, and after clicking my name on that welcome screen I get this: "0X00000083" which upon Googling means RAM problems... again. Another forum here My Fix for the STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005... BSOD / REBOOT - Icrontic Forums has a post that shows that it could also be a Rootkit but I do not have the recovery console XP CD (or XP CDs alone) on-hand and I will mention once again, only my now-deceased father knew the location.

I got into Safe Mode, only to have to have it restart on me, same 0X00000083 error, and even after multiple restarts it will not get past the Energy Star logo and "press F8 for this and that" thing.

TL/DR: What the hell is wrong with my computer? Is it the RAM? Do I need to get an early birthday gift of new computer repair bills from Staples... AGAIN? Does this require going into the BIOS?

**When I look stuff up on Google it's always done by this laptop or I wouldn't be typing this.

ALSO: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827663 will not work - I can't get into the computer and if even if I can get it into Safe Mode it doesn't last long.

OK, found the XP CDs, some notes are written on post it notes on the CD covers though (for living room PC and stuff) from my dad. One of them looks dusty with fingerprints on the cover but I don't know if it's used. I did manage to get into safe mode today to try to clean up stuff but I don't know if I need a reformat or if I need new RAM or even a new computer. What a nice early birthday gift.

Also "0X00000083" pops up again.

if you've got your XP CD.. and dont care about having to re-download everything. I'd say just format.

if it fucks up during the format, your ram is fucked. if it doesnt, you're registry will be fixed from the format.

It's more than likely a rootkit after doing some more research. "avast! antivirus" did not pick it up. Either way I had to drop it off once more because Mom, once again, saw me trying to fix it on my own at 3 AM, flipped out, etc. Why do I even bother trying to do things on my own? I'm almost 20!

usually BSOD's are caused by bad memory....which can even include a bad video card, even if drivers are OK,(happened to me) as they also have memory as well.

The device manager said it was working fine. I'll find out soon though...

Even if it says it's fine, its not fine. Device Manager is there to show you what drivers are not installed/conflicting and IO problems back in the day.

Do what the person above said, reformat/reinstall. If it fucks up during that part... its the memory, if it doesn't, it was your windows.

stop downloading shit to fix it. stop doing a shit load of "research" on google, what one person did for their computer usually wont work all the way for the next, due to non-matching parts and different configurations.

You have a ton of info here, from people that have attempted to help you and you have completely ignored or argued with. If you don't know what the fuck you are doing, admit it and stop doing what the people at Staples do. Which is troubleshoot via Google.

Either reformat/reinstall or take your shit back to staples.
