Default Widescreen TV problem (?)

Recently decided to switch my TV's over from my PC monitor to my widescreen TV, the graphics are gorgeous, and alongside that, i figured that i would be given more 'room' as it were in my EQ2 game.

Alas it seems that everything has just decided to get bigger, i've seen people with screenshots having roughly 8Cm's space between each particular window (Hotbars, Chat, Active Buffs, those sort of things).

How would i go about doing this? is it just as simple as making everything smaller? Or do i need to do something else?

Here's a screenshot of what my Game currently looks like.

I'll assume you have a 1080p TV. That's a resolution of 1900x1080. No mainstream consumer grade TV exceeds 1080 (that I know of). That resolution is approximately equal to what you'll get on a 24" LCD monitor (1900x1200 is common there). So, assuming you have a ~46" TV, you are displaying the same resolution as that 24" monitor except there's almost 4x as much viewable screen area. That means the pixels are comparitively huge.

The only way to exceed that resolution on a single screen is to go up to a larger LCD monitor. The 30" variety are 2560x1600 standard.

To get more "free space" in EQ2 on your 1080 screen you need to manually resize every UI element. Keep in mind that you're not getting any more resolution out of it, so some things (chat especially) may become grainer or more difficult to see.

edit: also, make sure you're sitting far enough away. i have a 30" monitor and i sit in front of it at normal desktop distance and its damn close to being too big. i'm probably putting excessive strain on my eyes.

Alright Fir, thanks a ton for the reply, sucks that the only way i can get more space would be to resize everything, i did make an attempt at it, but it seemed the only thing i was capable to actually resize was the Hotbars and a few windows, but only to a certain size, sucks a bit but ah well, at least the screen is much Bigger, and although it seems i havn't made any room at all, i havn't lost any that i previously had either, so at least the icons are slightly larger, i just might get in a few less miss-clicks now! :D

Thanks again for the reply, greatly appreciated.

That 1900x1080 and 1900x1200 aren't resolutions like you posted.

Oh, yeah. Missed the "2" in there. It's been awhile since I've used that size monitor. I used to generalize it in my head as "19x12" when discussing it in shorthand.

Thanks for setting the record straight over those 20 pixels. Your contribution to this thread is meaningful and insightful. I'll go back and revise the entire premise of my wildly inaccurate first post now. =(

I wouldn't have done it if your entire posting career here wasn't based on doing the same.
