Default ping

i gots question about my ping..

for awhile( atleast year) my ping is around 100-175..and seems to be playable...couple nights ago in raid my ping went from 100ish to 500ish..
at first i thought my wife was doin somthing.. but after i check she wasnt even on the computer..with the high ping im gettin some very shit lag ingame and called tech support..they replaced modem and was lookin fine.. ping back down to 100ish.. and in the evenin it was back to shit.. so far this is what i have found.. in the mornin..my ping id fine..( have tested this for 3 days now)
i do a ping test in cmd and i get 50ish..but my 3-4 pm im back up too 500ish nothing i know of has changed..no hardware or software changes that i have done..only the windows update..( usin rc windows 7 still)

so i belive it is not my issue.. but something to do with the provider
what would cause your ping to go up a shitload in the evenings and run fine in the mornings? is there a way to make sure its not an issuse on my end? any help would be cools thanks

Normally that's the symptom of a cable modem, but it appears you're using DSL. Now, if you're using some apartment complex's DSL or sharing in any way (someone else on network or virus), that's the source of your problem. I'd recommend removing your router (going directly into the modem) and running an anti-virus to see if things change.

To troubleshoot with your ISP you will to have to get more specific than "your pings are higher in the evenings". What exactly are you pinging? Multiple addresses I hope? You will need to run tracert and figure out where the congestion is. Problem is, even if you are able figure it out the origin of the problem the only person you'll be able to talk to is a clueless CSR who will give you the flush your cache/history run-around.

I suggest finding a new ISP if it is indeed not your fault.

yea if you have wireless router and especially if you are in apartment chances are someone could be leeching off you running bittorrent etc (WEP/WPA can be cracked somewhat easily)

yeah theres a buildin wireless on my modem and is password protcted..

but after bitchin for 2 weeks about it.. i got it fixed.. they said that there was a new line beenin build and the put everyone on one line instead of 2 so was packed.. now both are up and workin.. they all
so replaced my port in office..

next question.. how is satellite for gamin.. from what they tell me it will be awhile for any higher speed.( im maxed at 1mb) atleast a year..
and was wondering if there is any other option for me.. i live in the middle of nowhere..and the cable sucks worse then dsl..( same speeds but wired wrong or somthing)..so im stuck with dsl or satellite..which i
remember sucked back in the day with drops and shit..
