Re: simple hard drive question.
1. Insert hard disk (If its IDE then make sure you have the master / slave / cs jumper set correctly.)
2. Boot to windows
3. Format the hard disk and assign it a drive letter using disk manager. (Start Menu > Run > type "diskmgmt.msc" > hit enter)
No you don't need to install another copy of windows, after you've done the above your existing windows installation will be able to see the secondary drive and use the space on it.
If you need more help then google it, there are so many decent guides on basic disk management already that its not worth typing it all up here.
