Default simple hard drive question.

The hard drive for my windows machine is near full.. because I'm doing a lot of video editing.

Can I take the hard drive out of my other machine with ubuntu installed on it and put it in the other machine as a slave drive? would i need to format it? or do anything to do it? Does it need to have windows on it as well?

thanks..

It'd be best if you format it, or at least partition it, but yes that would work.

1. Insert hard disk (If its IDE then make sure you have the master / slave / cs jumper set correctly.)

2. Boot to windows

3. Format the hard disk and assign it a drive letter using disk manager. (Start Menu > Run > type "diskmgmt.msc" > hit enter)

No you don't need to install another copy of windows, after you've done the above your existing windows installation will be able to see the secondary drive and use the space on it.

If you need more help then google it, there are so many decent guides on basic disk management already that its not worth typing it all up here.
