Default Win 7 and UI problems

When I run the game in full screen mode everything works fine, but when I try to run it in windowed mode the UI flashes like crazy. I have tried to run the default UI, Profit and Fetish but no difference what UI I use.

My rig is as follows :

3.2 quad i965 extreme
Rampage II extreme mb
1k Corsair ps
12g 1600 triple ram
Asus 295 gtx card
win7 64 bit pro

I have tried running the game in all the available compatibility modes and have the latest video drivers for the card with no luck.

The computer is working fine...the game doesn't want to play nice.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

win7 was working fine in windowed mode for me up until the last big game update - now i suffer from the UI blanking out - I cut back many of the settings to troubleshoot but never got it working right again. Guess as more people start using win7 and bitching about windowed mode SOE will take a look at it.

This has been happening to me on 64 bit vista since the last game update. They are aware of the issue, but don't know why it is happening. Really ruins the game play at times.

Turn off SLI. You get this problem with cards that have two cores on the same card.

You should have asked your guildie, Zeniade. He had the same problem.

I actually had the same problem in Vista 64 but running the game in XP compatibility mode worked and removed the flashing.

Disabling the multi core support is a total pita but yes it does work but it is way wrong having to do that for any game,

Thanks for your responses so far ...hopefully someone will come up with a fix that does not require neutering the video card

Goto the NVidia control panel, goto the SLI portion of it. Goto the programs. Change it to where it wont use it for Everquest 2. You get a little lag when the program starts up, but it's for the better.

Everquest 2 was not made for SLI and it gains NOTHING from having it enabled.

Okay me and Devyn had the same exact problem running Win 7 and Nvidia GTX 295s.

This is how to fix it.

Nvidia Drivers Version: 185.81, 185.85, and 195.39 (beta)

Use the above drivers to stop the flashing in Windowed Mode.

All other versions including the one being pushed by Nvidia and Microsoft as being the latest stable version (191.07) will cause the flashing.

The SLI thing may fix it but Devyn has two of these cards running as SLI, but I only have one NON-SLI.

Default Re: Win 7 and UI problems

So lets review why I stated what I stated.

I run two GT 8800 Nvidia video cards in my current PC. I bought these almost three years ago when they first came out. I've ran them on SLI for eons with other games and with it when Everquest 2. I noticed when I did use SLI for Eq2, the performance went down. I got less frames per second than I did with running one single card. SLI was never made for EQ2. You can force it to use it and other GPU options with this game, but if it isn't in the games options, don't bother using it.

Now, lets look at the GTX 295.

It has two cores. So its going to run SLI right off the bat when you install the drivers.

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and was playing around with SLI, probably about a month ago after a fresh install of EQ2. I noticed my UI was spazzing out. So I turned off SLI. This fixed it.

SLI Application Profiles: How to Guide NVIDIA SLI application Profiles using Coolbits*:
NVIDIA has created an extensive set of optimized application profiles which enable games to run automatically and optimally in SLI mode. There are currently over 260 of these NVIDIA pre-defined profiles. These games run in SLI mode out-of-the-box with no action required from end-users.
For games without a pre-defined profile, NVIDIA allows customers to create their own SLI application profiles:

Step 1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting 'NVIDIA Control Panel'

Step 2. Select '3D Settings'

Step 3.
Select 'Manage 3D Settings'

Step 4.
Click 'Add'

Step 5.
Locate the executable file on your computer for the application you wish to create the profile for. The profile will be added to the list. In the example “NewGame.exe”

Step 6.
Select your preferred SLI performance mode or SLI antialiasing mode. Besides 'Single-GPU', there are three performance modes to choose from:
Split frame rendering
Alternate frame rendering 1
Alternate frame rendering 2*
*Alternate frame rendering 2 is an alternate version of AFR that may provide better performance than AFR 1 on some applications

You also have the option to choose an SLI antialiasing mode instead of an SLI performance mode. If you do so, the SLI performance mode will be disabled. The SLI antialiasing modes can be found under 'Antialiasing settings'

Step 7. Click "Apply" and your new SLI Application Profile is ready for use!

Running two of this cards is how you achieve running QUAD SLI.

Default Re: Win 7 and UI problems

that 195 beta NVIDIA driver seems to have fixed the disappearing UI in windowed mode for me -

No SLI to monkey with here just 8800 GTS.
