Default Severe overheating.

My laptop overheats so severely that I have to cool it like this full time. I know its got to be some setting with my processor, but I'm not overclocking or anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Hp probably put to much thermal paste on the processor. You either need to send it to them or crack it open and remove the extra thermal paste on processor.

They sell a laptop cooling pad for $20 at Staples,Bestbuy etc

Anyone who has a laptop should be using one, regardless if its overheating or not.

How old is it? I take mine apart and clean the fans and heatsinks of dust every few months. If you run it a lot the dust piles up in the heatsinks and coats the blades on the fans. A can of air and some Q-tips will fix it.

Edit: I use a cooler that holds the back end up and blows air underneath it.

That's what I use Spikke. Its a 2 year old HP zd8000 that I upgraded the RAM to 2 GB on. I have a foam like cooing rack that it basically sits on. I've fixed so many PCs its insane, I've just never been ballsy enough to go through my laptop.

laptops are a huge pain in the ass compared to PC's when I was doing some pc repair shit, guy gave me a macbook or whatever, little 12 inch laptop, took me three hours to CAREFULLY take it apart, and anotehr three to put it back together, and like... 3 minutes to put in the new dvd drive :P, but, he paid hourly, so I was happy :D

MACs aren't that bad. We have an iMac, a Power G5, and a powerbook. At some point or another I have replaced memory or added parts. The power book we recently put a larger hard drive in and it didn't take me 6hrs

The ONLY thing I hate about MACs is that I can't get them and my PCs to use the level of Wireless encryption I want them to on my network. So I tell Leah she's SOL and has to connect hardwired when she wants to access the network.

Back to the laptop thing... my brother once had an overheating laptop. He took it all apart and then reassembled it in a concotion of plexi-glass and other plastics with tons of holes and vents. Of course he's an uber geek and did it more for looks than anything I'll see if I can dig up a picture of this thing.

I use one of those cooling pads someone posted a SS of. It works well on my laptops.
