Re: Templar DPS preference
Melee crits = free dps between casts. Swinging for 1300-2000 on auto attack cannot be a bad thing.
Max out spell crit, and casting speed. Bolt of Power does quite a bit of dps too. (str)

Re: Templar DPS preference
i got a pretty good 2 hander now, my question mostly is, should i use like all this cloth +spell dmg + spell crit stuff i been getting or mix in some haste/dps/double attack/+crushing stuff? i seem to hit like 50% which is pretty bad. My guild is atm, furyless so i am kinda the sub-fury, i always got troub buffs, not really going to ask for illusionist buffs, since all of our mages and the troub are solid dps, any insight into a suggestion? I assume go all out spell gear and just melee with my hammer but my melee would be sucking

Re: Templar DPS preference
I've turned around on the melee versus spell damage issue. I think both are important to get the most DPS possible.
My best raid so far was 1.5k zone wide, and a hit 2.2k on two separate trash fights. For those 2.2k fights, the DPS graph for the fight was 50% melee DPS and 50% spell DPS. Usually, my melee is down around 25% on both solo and raid zone wides.
This tells me that there is a lot of head room on the melee side. This means trying to balance STR/DPS/Haste stats with INT/Spell damage/Spell crit stats.
This raid was with a dirge, illusionist and zerker in the group. Pretty ideal for Templar DPS.

Re: Templar DPS preference
Oh, this was with a AGI/STA/INT build. STR/INT/WIS edges it out for solo play, but as I said the melee build scales better with raid buffs.

Re: Templar DPS preference
I'm almost done levelling my main (Necro) and will be taking my Templar from 70 to 80 soon, so I'm wondering if there's anything better than the good ol' Blackscale Maul for the first while in RoK? Should I have my eyes open for anything specific, or should I change my whole setup away from the heavy melee crit 2-hander and actually do a mace-n-board kinda setup? I've got the wrath line already in the Templar AAs, but I'm wondering what's the "optimal balance" for soloing through the RoK quests, and anything else that may be non-obvious?
Thanks.

Re: Templar DPS preference
If you were going straight dps, my guess on the best build, would be str, agi, int. Focusing on spell casting gear, and going with a spell casting weapon. Double attack with a medium speed weapon with a very high damage rating and spell casting procs or bonuses tend to get the most bang with my personal experance. As a templar in eof that had zone wide raid parses over 2k, I can assure you its a combination of melee and spells, contary to what you may think, if you parse the illus proc on both a fast casting templar and a wizard or warlock, you will get more dps out of the proc on a templar. Going for BoE upgrades can make a major differnce as well. For maxium dps, the only stats you need to focus on are str, int, and sta for high life to stay in for aoes if practical.
If you can survive an aoe and just heal up instead of going out 50 meters to dodge it, faster just heal thru it. If you have any decent power proc gear, power should never be an issue. Another thing to think about, is if you have a dirge and you have a faster swinging weapon you can get more CoB procs with it, templars cast dps spells in last than 1.5 seconds so delay issues with wasted auto attacks are not really an issue if your just dpsing.

Re: Templar DPS preference
I went for healing and DPS on my templar. I parse 1500+ most of the time. Double atk maxed. Melee crit max. Spell crit max. The CA's you get from the AA lines help DPS for sure. I use a big ass hammer. Like said earlier, having a nice Melee crit, esp. with the double atk crit between spells definately boosts your dps. I went down smites tree and Blessings tree for Templar aa. Blessings is always nice to have, and the Smites will increase spell damage by 25% and lower mana costs and casting speeds.
Bottom line. I think melee is half the battle. You can melee while you heal, even if its one bash between heals. Dps is Dps.
Pull out the hammer, boost up the DA and MC/SC. Make sure you get a crack in between spells.

How is AGI better than STA for pure DPS? 100% melee crit is WAY better than 50% DA.
