Templar DPS preference
I have tried a lot of stuff to play around with dps as a templar but i havent had good equipment to give it a good test. What do you guys think is best way for templar to dps in most raids? speccing for Melee, like crits, str, haste, dps, double attack? or Spells, like spell damage spell crits, casting speeds? Or kinda in the middle? Any advice or insight would be sweet, thanks.

Re: Templar DPS preference
Templar DPS is a mix of both casting and melee. If you try to focus on one you will eb falling short.

Re: Templar DPS preference
This could change in T8 though. There are so many +spell damage and +spell crit items out there, as apposed to haste/dps mods.

Re: Templar DPS preference
I don't know what Nyax means by falling short, When I was a templar I went spell dps and did fairly well, in the right group I would push 1700+ DPS on trash in EH (2100+ in FTH). We have (IMHO) some amazing healers in our guild, I was the "third wheel" templar and healing was not a top priority for me so I could unload almost all the time.
If you are in a group with an Illusionist/Trouby/Wizard go with +Spell & +Crit (remember +Spell caps now at 50% of the base so once you get near cap, I would assume +crit would be better after cap, But no hard facts on this.). Before I betrayed I was at 610 Spell damage and was at 39% Spell crit.
There are a number of +Spell/+Crit items from the Kylong Plains quests.
I had 3 sets of gear to switch out for diffrent times, like when I actually needed needed to heal I would use my EOF set... Or for some reason got put in a group with a Dirge I had a str/haste set with a nice beating stick.

Re: Templar DPS preference
yeah i figured if you wanted to go all out spells would probably be the best, if i am in a situation where i have to heal a lot, would i be a bad idea to spec a little for melee so i can still probably hit like 600or so dps without using any mana?

Re: Templar DPS preference
If you weren't meleeing with a big fucking hammer and yalup up you weren't using your abilities to your full benefit. A nice big hit in between spells makes for a lot of dps. You gotta do it the same way melee classes time their auto attacks and CAs.

Re: Templar DPS preference
I don't know. I have tried both a spell and melee spec doing the RoK solo quests. With STA/AGI maxed and a 113DR 2 hander, melee is still only 20% of my DPS.
I think the STR/INT lines were better. No interupts and few resists. Your melee drops to just 5% or so, but you make up for it by focusing on maxing INT versus trying to max STR and INT with gear, which is hard.

Re: Templar DPS preference
With an Inquisitor, it's totally different. Their damage spells can be converted to CAs, which then use melee crit. Plus, they get self DPS and Haste. When I was an Inquis, my melee was 50% of my total DPS.

Most of the time, I was using a Grizfazle's mace with +1% spell crit adorn when I was in my templar +spell gear. I did use Staff of Cultivation or Knotty Pine Cudgel when I needed to melee, but generally I used my mace and blasted away. I never seemed to fall short hitting the parse.
