Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
I am looking to maximize my DPS.. right now I am having a really hard time breaking 2k.
Of course my biggest problem is that I don't have any good 2h's (no vrak, nothing from tier8), so any non-raid suggestions until twin mallet drops a couple times would be awesome.
Basically it just seems like spam smite, martyr strike, and AOE when both are down after the 2nd cycle.
A really frustrating thing about templar DPS is that the hammer adds a lot, but its downtime is ridiculous. And the AA increases duration, but since the recast starts when the pet dies, you have the same downtime. And its not like you need the extra duration since mobs die more than fast enough anyways.
The smite wrath line is also terribly designed. Not only is it arguably the worst healer DPS line (defilers might disagree), but what the fuck is with not getting the benefit after we've casted divine recovery, sanct, or repent (basically the only 2 I hit while dpsing on trash in MT group). I would trade this for energy vortex any day.
Anyways, any gear or techniques (plz dont say anything obvious like "always melee") to increase dps are appreciated. I basically want to do 2500-3000 regularly.

Re: Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
I can spike to 3k very occasionally, hit 2.2k every few fights, and average 1.8k zw with light healing from the off tank group. Some thoughts: - You can cancel the smite wraith debuff with your mouse. If anyone has a macro for this, let me know!
- I use the 2H off Woushie. I think any two hander with a decent delay and damage spread would be good.
- I have a separate set of DPS gear. It's almost all mastercrafted +spell DPS plate, and treasured and legendary +spell dps jewelry.
- I get up to 450 STR, 700 INT, +600 spell damage, 36 DPS and 50 Haste self buffed.
- I get up to 800 STR, 800 INT, +600 spell damage, 50 DPS and 100 Haste raid buffed, typically with a zerker, dirge and illus.
- For my highest damage fights, I lead with DR and the pet.
- I get in melee range ASAP and spam a macro that has Mastery, Strike, Smite, Corruption and Axiom in that order.
- Undead mobs help.
- AA doesn't matter that much. I can put out comparable numbers in my defensive versus offensive specs. The INT line is the constant.
Edit: I believe the timer on the pet starts when it expires/dies. Using DR with less than 30 seconds on the pet will cut the recast timer. Might make sense to pre-cast the pet.

Re: Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
I guess I'm saying I'm not sure how to get to 3k consistently. I don't have any DPS masters; that will help. Other than that, I think focusing on spell crit gear, of which there are a bunch of good fabled options.
I don't think any more focus on STR/INT/+Spell damage gear is warranted. Haste and DPS would be nice, but relatively minor.

Re: Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
Thanks for the suggestions, though DR only affects recovery and casting times, not reuse; unless I am missing what you meant
if you have access to a parser could you reasonably estimate how much of your dps (number, not %) is from melee autoattack? and other stuff too if you have the initiative

Re: Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
What kind of group setup are you constantly looking at? Are you in an off tank group or what? I know that in the mage group it seems that the % of dmg I can do melee is minor compared to what I can pull of flinging spells. Then again I haven't really tried to up my melee dps since staying out of the AOE's of most mobs seems to be a good idea.
I actually try to gather up spell proc gear etc to augment my dps, and getting a Syn (now called Tandem) can really push my dps up.

Re: Templar DPS on raids (Gear/technique)
A 2.6k trash parse last night was:
21% hammer, 20% strike, 18% crush, 17% smite, 13% corruption. The rest was procs.
This was on a non-undead mob, with a one-hander. Usually I get my highest with a 2H, this much have been a lucky fight for crits.
