If you examine the icon it appears as though the set pieces are required, for either the 3 set or 5 set. Best I can tell, these are just display bugs and don't actually represent the buff you've actually cast(with the bonuses).

I would suspect its the same mechanic that allows us to cast group Aegolism and then swap to a different weapon. Then again I could be completely wrong and be talking out of my ass, It's been known to happen.

Easy way to test it, really - equip the five set, cast the buff on a target, check their hp, remove the 5 set, check their hp.

Yup, you can swap it in/out.

The Stoneskin is harder to check (obviously) but I highly doubt it is any different. Still, that's not a major issue - as most people are wearing at least the three set (not really many RoK gear alternatives)

Stoneskin would be checked every hit if it works anything like our proc buffs.
