Default Tanking as a Templar

Hello All, just needed some advice.

I'm brand new to EQ2 and am playing with my gf (wizard) and the two of us have been strictly duoing so far. We recently attempted crushbone keep at lvl 27 and cannot last.

Is this doable for that pair? Also we've gotten farther into the dundgeon with me tanking, but I was wondering is there a best way to setup a templar to do that? Or B, is that not even really possible?

All of my achievement points so far have been spent in the int line, I'm going to max out the spell casting speed achievement.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That's a terrible combo imo. Templar wont be able to hold agro off wizzy .. or if the wizzy is /afk so the templar can actually hold agro the mobs won't be dieing anytime soon.

A scout (non-bard) / templar would be okay setup. Or a wizzy / enchanter. Or pick up a tank and pwn CB with the three of you.

INT is a good initial line to take.

Ya I didn't know which classes would make a team. I was considering rerolling as a pally, maybe that would make a better duo, but the problem is no heals then One person I talked to in game said that if I specced right, I could do the tanking in these lower instances while the wizard killed everything? Or is this just totally wrong and I should forget about. I know I definetly don't have enough dps to really help out on that front

I don't think you're going to be able to fill the tank and healer role while duoing with a wizard, no matter what class you pick.

You might have limited success letting the wizard tank (and specing AAs for it), and playing a mystic or defiler. The wards will help the wizard stay up.

The wizard just isn't a good duo partner, IMO. Usually you want both classes to fill two roles, either tank/dps, tank/healer or healer/DPS. The wizard is typically just DPS.

Good examples are swashies (tank/dps), fury (healer/dps), etc.

Tank/healer is the hardest combo. An SK or Pally might be able to keep aggro off the wizard and keep themselves alive at the same time. It won't be easy, though. You could try Inquisitor as well. Decent snap aggro and DPS, but you'll need a bunch of AAs to get to that point.

my wizzy use to tank a lot, i duo'd with a mystic for a while. then we stopped hunting as much and i hit rok where wizzy tanking is more of a problem. my gf started duo'ing with me on her inquis and tanking. i would give her a couple seconds to get aggro then unleash hell. worked pretty well especially since she normally precasts her reactives. not sure if this can be the same with a templar, as the inquis has the benefits of CAs.

I can cast the reactives before battle and that definitely helps. With normal mobs we are fine, the problem is the heroics in crushbone, when she tanks and I precast the reactives we wipe because she gets interrupted so much she can't kill the monsters and after awhile I get to a point in healing where all of my heals are on cooldown and she dies. When I tank we do better but if she pulls agro off me I end up not being able to heal both of us because at that point I'm on cooldown for some heals, and am getting hit myself. Like I said, I'm a noob so I'm prolly not doing something right though. I think alot of my gear isn't up to my level, I'll try to update stuff via the broker for higher mitigation pieces and see if it helps!

I recently created a Templar and I'm going down the AA line of Strength first. At the end of the strength line you get an ability that stops you from being interrupted which a healer needs. Next After finishing the Strength line I will finish the stamina line which comes with a knock-down.

I've chosen this AA spec because I want a Tank / Healer than can withstand a full group by myself. The AA line you seem to be going down is sort of a "Spell Hit Harder" line if you will.

A templar just isn't going to be able to keep aggro off of a decent DPS class. Even with heal aggro, it's just not enough. Maybe if you were duoing with a hate xfer scout (assassin, swashie).

Mate... save yourself a lot of trouble fretting over this. Crushbone Keep is a group zone i.e. it's 'designed' for a group of six people, maybe three higher level folk at a pinch.

Sure you and your partner can probably kill some heroic stuff when you put your mind to it but it's slow and tedious... personally I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than try to duo a dungeon of heroics.

Don't be discouraged though, at later levels your wizzy half should be able to root/nuke solo just about any heroic mob that doesn't ridiculously out level her.

My suggestion to you is focus on stuff 'designed' for solo play, stuff you can do without constant death an frustration. Head along to Category:Solo Timelines - EQ2i and follow your nose; there is some great solo quests and content available that will get you levelling up and having fun without all the frustration. I find it good to balance this solo stuff with joining the occasional group to do dungeons like Crushbone Keep or Ruins of Varsoon.

Have fun mate!
