Yes, there are around 5 priest usable roundshields in the game. People have been using them ever since shield ally was released. They all had shitty stats but had real good protection values.

Yeah, I find it funny that the original T6 Shield Ally shield will still fit into the middle of that progression if it gets overlooked.

They need to pay a couple people for each class to clue them in or something. It's obvious they don't know the practical workings of their own game as much as those who actually do research on it.

That's T7. And it's a good thing Protection scales based on iLvl vs. cLvl.

Well yes, it's also only relevant to T7 as DoF didn't have AA's. But it's hardly worth commenting on.

As for the other thing... has there ever been an actual study on it? The only things regarding that I have seen looked like people who just relay things they read as facts without ever caring if they were facts or not.

Look at your Persona, your block drops as you level up. Combine with comparing 2 similiar Protection items with different iLvls and you'll see that the higher the iLvl, the more block you will have. This is the same with mitigation and resists as well.

I kind of liked the idea of one or two shields with high protection values and little else to recommend it. It gives the player a choice.

From the quotes on that official forums thread, it seems like this was never the intention. The protection values for a round shield are auto-generated by some tool, and then fucked up by hand to make it a priest usable.

I can buy that this shit makes it past beta. But take a fucking look at some logs after it goes live. The data is available to tell whether an item is over powered; just see if way more people than expected are suddenly wearing it. Or perhaps near 100% of raiders of a given class have it equipped.

Looking at data like that would let them nerf the item a month or less into the expansion, when it doesn't sting so much. Doing it now just makes it seems like they are nerfing it to make room for items in the next expansion.

I think this is what discourages me the most. For 4 months I'll have junk and then I'll have to work hard again to camp something that will probably be ALMOST as good as what I used to have. And then I'll have to hope that it isn't 'fixed' again later.

would you prefer they hand you a sheild with 1200 protection that is Templar useable when you patch the next expansion? Thats what makes some players good and some players shitty. The good players do what it takes to get the gear to make their character good. Shit, you must not have done OG claymore, having to camp names for 4-8 hours sometimes just for an update. I do agree, it sucks that they are nerfing the sheilds this late into the expansion, but damn... so many people complaining its like they are taking away heals too. Why dont you heal more/better to make up for the nerf in sheild protection. Or is that to crazy of a thought?

That doesn't say much. It's commonly known that mob level will modify your blocking percentage. Leveling up will change what level the persona window is comparing against.

Bah, that's why I asked if anyone did a study. I didn't want to do it myself to see the actual relations.

I don't know what you mean by resists, but the mitigation issue is something I try to convince myself that SoE never did. It never made practical sense to me. I bet a lot of their devs didn't even know about it the way they spoke.

Anyhow, I don't group together different mechanics under a single answer just because it works for one thing. Critical hits certainly don't share the same methods. +Damage/Healing caps don't share the same methods. Heck, even differing types of heal spells don't even share the same methods of +heal capping. Mitigation and avoidance don't share nearly enough for me to consider using eachother as evidence of a mechanic.

Meaning, I'll probably have to look at it myself.

Wow, I'm impressed so much misunderstanding was able to fit in one place. And while managing to give absolutely no good information at all at the same time. Very impressive.

Just FYI, I had the rainbow shield. I had the guard. I have spent the time to camp anything that I could camp. Your post isn't even remotely the point of anything I or anyone else I read said.

The point is that there is nothing TO camp for the next four months. Find me a shield I can go get NOW and I'll be happy to go spend however much time is needed to get it. I've been looking - and trying to post constructive posts on the SoE boards - and so far haven't found anything. I'm waiting for enlightenment please help...
