IIRC, the choker used to inflict arcane(?) damage, which meant that Shield of Faith was useful for them, but SOE changed it to focus damage, so SoF doesn't do anything for it anymore.

Unless they changed it in TSO, focus damage still has a type of damage, it just can't be mitigated with resists. You just have to cast the type-specific wards and see if they do anything to tell what type of damage it is. If templar ward absorbs it, it's arcane. If the warden version does, it's elemental. If the mystic version does, it's noxious.

I haven't heard anything about the choker being changed. The jewel of animosity on the other hand was changed so not only could it not be mitigated but also it ignores wards, etc.

I looked and yes they changed the description to say focus damage. So I went to the training dummy and threw on my choker, cast shield of faith and watched the ward amount tick down as i cast spells. My health didn't drop until the ward was used up. So yes the dmg may say focus dmg but it is still treated as magic dmg and sof still works against it. Also don't forget that you also have repent. 2 very useful tools to combat the damage inflicted by chokers.

In addition to SoF and Repent, I use Reverance on the mages as well to combat choker damage... usually heals just slightly more than the damage they take from it.

Works like a charm. Especially when you are solo healing 3-4 mages with chokers.
