I have to admit that Flurry is a ton of fun. Soloing is actually tollerable now.

Just curious with all the new AA's what would be the best dps spec now....pure melee or pure spell or combination of both.

Also, is there a good 2h hammer that I could get my hand on that would be better than mythical for autoattack damage?

Flurry rocks. esp with (near) 100% melee crits.

Thex hammer is nice. not sure if it's better than pawbuster hammer but since i'm having trouble finding reasonable gear with high str i think the Thex will be the winner.

Haven't worked out a dps spec yet... will probably wait till i get 200aa... which will be awhiel cause i dont see me going back for grey quests yet.

Dps spec can be achieved with about 179 aas. Cleric tree you need melee crits, int line and max double attack. Then in Templar tree you need blessings and max smite wraths line. In the shadows tree the key things to take are Litany of Combat, Overwhelming Arms, Blessed Yaulp, the bonus to divine smite and Peaceful Aggression(offensive stance).

I had those while using Bonecrusher(pawbuster hammer) in the palace of the ancient one and was able to get a high parse of 5393 in the mt group. Was averaging 4.5-5k on trash.

I have been gearing out my templar with the oodles of melee gear (haste, double attack, +dps, str gear ect) since there really isn't much for healer items.

I have been experimenting with auto attack damage and it seems like I lose DPS when I start casting spells.....even if I try to time it between auto attacks.

Granted that I don't have everything capped yet and I am a noob when it comes to DPSing but I was pulling out alittle over 3k dps on trash mobs in hate the other night just debuffing and autoattacking.

I have been using my mythical but I would assume that the dps would only go up when I get the Thex Mallet.

Can any of you number crunchers confirm or deny that templars should forgo any casting (minus the debuffs) and just melee?

well the rule for that is pretty simple

to maximize the dps you can only use spells which have a shorter cast time than your autoattack delay is (/weaponstats for details). so considering thex mallet has 5sec natural delay, youre likely to get more or your spells in between swings than with a faster weapon

So that brings up another question.... should I concentrate maximizing my melee (haste, double attack, +dps, str gear ect) and just rely on spells for "extra" damage?

The problem I am running into is alot of the scout/tank gear has low intel so I am having a hard time keeping that high (sitting at 300 ATM) while in dps gear.

I know Inquis are suppost to be the melee type cleric (god I would love to have the CA's ) and templars are suppost to be the spell cleric but with the new AA's it seems that melee far outweighs spell damage.

well i personally dont play a templar, but: depends on your group.

means: a troub in your group, buffed for cast-stuff will likely put your focus on your spells for all his damage procs (aria n potm n disruption skill). in those kind of groups youll likely get int buffed as well so casting away, especially while potm is running should be preferred over autoattacks.

other way round goes for dirge-groups where youve got time to dps... should concentrate on melee there.

For solo dps, litany of combat gives a great boost. The melee option gives almost 50% extra dps compared to the spell option. Haven't tested casting expertise in raids so far to tell the difference for dps there.

Maybe I'm noobness but: I rarely have deadspots in my casting order to warrant melee spec. And if there is a spot where a dmg spell isn't ready, I toss out a stifle, stun, or refresh of my reactive.

Anyone care to post their casting order, including auto hits?

Have you tried melee spec with the new shadow AA's? If you have a fairly fast weapon like a the mythical its really hard to get a spell off and not mess up a possiable double attack, flurry or double flurry.

Even the double attacks do more damage than any of our nukes and take no power to use.

I'm no number cruncher but if you have a fairly fast weapon it seems like nuking would actually hurt your dps since swing time is less than your cast time of your nuke.

If you have a slow 2h hammer then like the above poster said.....nuking in between swings will up your dps since it's alot easier to time it. with a 5 delay weapon.
