why is it useless? It's a great melee enhancer if you are melee dps spec. Useless in a raid yes if that's what you meant though.

*shrug* If you're meleeing and have the power... it's not useless. You don't have to be spec'ed for anything in particular. But if you have Steadfast, the -focus detriment is meaningless.

Well, there are actual AA that modify Yaulp... then there is Overwhelming Arms... and something in the AGI line to increase Double Attack.

My melee specc with Yaulp (including TSO Melee enhancement) is great. It's definitely NOT useless. Even if you are MT templar on raid trash mobs why not have it active? Doesn't hurt at all. Since I am OT I have it active pretty much all the time anyway (except tough fights of course).

Not to mention you can toggle it off and on whenever you like.
Earlier on during your Templar career it might hurt you a bit power wise but you will find gear to cancel that super easy.

There is most definitely a melee spec you can follow. IMO it rocks for regular group content and soloing. Besides being respectable healer DPS it has the added advantage of both not using any power (ie: free DPS keeping your power for heals/debuffs/or spell dps), and it also is not affected by the many self debuffs on our spell dps such as when casting a heal spell, or in healer stance, there are no melee self debuffs.

Raidwise I think the issue is that most raids healers are assigned a spot to be in due to stuns, aoe, or whatever that particular raid design is. So you don't get to really run up to the mob and melee it, although sometimes you do.

As mentioned before, it's not difficult to compensate for the power drain of Yaulp, but 7 power/second != no power use. For trash and short fights, no problem. For long fights where power management is an issue (VS, Nexona, Levi maybe) it can be much harder to manage. It's an indispensible part of my DPS/solo spec.

I should rephrase that better and say the power drain of Yaulp is nicer than the power drain of spamming damage spells. But in groups where I'm going to be intensively healing and not meleeing of course I will turn Yaulp off to get focus and ministration back and manage power.

In those cases I could just switch to casting expertise and fall back on my 30% spell crit from the INT line (only 5 points in it). But by the same token if I'm intensively healing I'm rarely going to be casting any DD's, I would be opting to use any extra power on debuffs and lotto heals. Additionally with every heal spell I'm going to have that spell damage gimp, and don't forget the spell damage gimps in the shadows healing stance. The strength of melee spec besides the power management is that heal spells and/or heal stance do not gimp it.

In that sense if I'm in a group where power is not an issue, you will 99% of the time find me behind the mob doing autoattack, DA, melee crits and flurry. It also serves the purpose of putting me in range of shield ally, since it's one step closer than max range it's not hard to be one step away from shield ally working.

As a temp I have two specs. One for Solo (DPS) which includes using Yalup. One for Raid/group (Healing) not using yalup. As a healer mt or ot I am usually right next to the tank unless it is range based damage fight. I am speced steadfast so I can keep casting through the interrupts and stuff. Also have holy shield so I cast it when the AEs are about to go off. I have it macroed to me so I can avoid and keep casting as it usually involves a cure.
