Re: Sacrifice/Soul Ward survival strategies
thanx for the doll idea, pretty good thinking, i shall have to try it
i have not been using the spell much since the changes, finally moved it from it's normal place on my hotbars and put DA there instead, but things were going south last night, so i used it as a last ditch effort, no AE's were inc, but as soon as i used it, adds popped and swarmed all over me don't think the doll would have helped either, but who knows

They should just rename the spell from Sacrifice to Suicide.

You'll probably get 10 of them. My defiler likes the reuse effect on it so wears it often and when we actually see a warden in the group for critical mitigation, she had one as well.
Not that I'll say that the ring is still super, but it's common to drop and unless you're seeing items I'm not, there aren't that many replacements that are too much better for two ring slots. Though I'll admit that before yesterday I wasn't wearing this ring at all. And I may still not wear it because of the other healers procing it for me.
I didn't want to make it sound like my solution was THE solution. But it should be one that doesn't really stop you from pursuing other solutions as well. With the script delay and hastened doll cast, it should be all over in about one second. You can't find any direct heals that can heal you for that much that quickly unless you directly proc OH/EMG/Emp Heal. (I think the doll can proc these also). You can also add a bit to the script by adding useabilityonplayer commands on the line after the use_itemvdl command(just add more lines before Visible=false).

Thanks for the idea for the doll. I was about to download your delay macro when I figured I'd try something else first. Here's how mine works:
Command: /cancel_spellcast
Spell/Ability: Sacrifice
Command: /g SACRIFICE > > %t!
Command: /r SACRIFICE > > %t!
Spell/Ability: Holy Aura
Command: /cancel_spellcast
Use Item: Innoruuk's Child
I figured if I started casting up a spell immediately after sacrifice and then cancelling it it might fix the "Recovering..." problem. I've used this macro a few times now and it seems to work fine.
I picked Holy Aura because I figured that spell would always be available to start casting since I never use it. It also doesn't require a target since it's a self buff plus it doesn't cost any power to cast it.

Mmm, if you say so. I wouldn't have thought that such a thing would bypass the problem because even using a macro where Sacrifice will not cast because of the cooldown, the doll would get a message like, "Already casting...", even though Sacrifice could not cast. I guess it would be the difference between the server thinking you're casting, the client thinking so and which the cancel command is trying to convince.

Re: Sacrifice/Soul Ward survival strategies
What's the quote? "No man hath love greater than this, that he surrender his soul on behalf of his friends?" Unfortunately, being both a female and a dark elf - I am filled with hate and have no intention of sacrificing myself.
Thanks for the suggestion - It really never occurred to me, and it should have, as I've been carrying that ring around in my backpack for situational use forever. It doesn't take that much to proc, and can certainly be done between boss fights without a lot of issue.
I like DivArb better than Sac, but it can be tricky. I've occasionally (and accidentally) hurt the MT to get the group stable, because if the defiler casts Soul Ward as I hit DivArb, it's sometimes a little difficult to cancel before it hits, and then the MT gets healed and then damaged all from the same oh-shit-purple-emer-heal.

Re: Sacrifice/Soul Ward survival strategies
Thanks Aditu. I tried to add the doll item to Soul Ward long ago and ran into the same problem of "Already Casting." not being very adept at html or UI stuff I just gave up.
Definately will use, I to often walk away after a night of raids with a doll in my inventory cause during the moment I completely forgot about it.
You could potentially also add the crystalized essences, but they have a bit of a cast time and don't heal for nearly as much. If you still have it also the phylactery item from that quest in Jarsath wastes but few would want to wear it anymore with better neck items available.
Bottled breath is also and option, that LoN item. 24 hour recast but hey why not if its instant cast?
Anyway thanks though, excellent solution to a problem I'd given up on.

This actually works a bit better than I expected... though the parts I marked in red are the only required ones. There's no need to have it try to cast another spell before issueing the cancel command. I did however add a /clearallqueuedabilities command at the top for fun.

Re: Sacrifice/Soul Ward survival strategies
I have been wondering why mine casts doll with no issue, must be the cancel spell cast at the beginning.
I use it just as much as I did before and only have died once, and we pretty much wiped anyway.
I still don't think it should have been changed or needed to be changed, but it works pretty well, and is closer to what they intended for it.
