I did what you said-- found a friend with a choker (A dirge even. Thanks Popples!), tossed share pain on him, and wore a Mutagenic Burst item (belt from RE2).
Results were as you said: didn't proc Mutagenic Burst.
Tried it 3 times. First time, he killed the dummy too fast to get any conclusive data, so he dropped his "leet gear." The 2nd and 3rd time, I received 36 & 47 hits from mortal coil. With a 14% chance to proc MB, it seems like it *should* have proced at least 3ish times, but, it didn't.
I'm not saying you're wrong, Iheals (because, let's face it, I did only try it out 2-3 times). TBH, from reading the descriptions, I actually thought, "hey, that seems like it would work... cheater dps, inc!" But, from straight up testing without any potential damage shields, it doesn't seem to work-- the "target's attacker" does seem to be the cock-blocker.
Edit to add: If I'm a retard, too, I'll be more than happy to concede that it works if my "controlled environment" test was incorrectly executed. I considered trying it with a person not wearing a choker but instead getting attacked by a GH conj pet to proc Share Pain... but, it was 4am on the east coast-- maybe I'll try that some other time, though it seems like technically the results would be the same. /shrug
However, Kriptini, MB is great on enounters with a steady damage shield. I think you've said you still kill Trak on a regular basis... plop on a piece or two on that encounter and you'll see what folks are talking about as far as it's dps potential is concerned.
