I'm waiting for someone to describe the skill involved in transmuting and tinkering.

There is no skill DUH!!!! You mash the same two buttons over and over...that is about it...Tho...with ROK that will soon be changing as Domino noted that tinkerers and transmuters are getting the full amount of tradeskill reaction arts as the other regular tradeskills. Now the real fun begins

The other thing I'd like addressed is when I sit through 5 combines in a row without a skill increase and feel like extracting someone's teeth with my keyboard.

I never went more than three combines the entire way to 350 tinkering without a skillup so dunno what is going on with you but I never had a problem.

For me, I arrange my reactives in my knowledge book so that durability is on the right column and progress to the left of that. They go from top to bottom, top being -success, middle being +to one, - to the other, and bottom being pure straight up dura or prog.

I start out right away pushing the top dura button, the - success one. That's the one I press every single round unless there is a reaction I have to make. I tend to press the durability ones only unless I'm so far ahead of the game that a bad tick on progress won't matter. I've had some success with just mashing the pure progress button, but you run out of power very fast although it can be done.

The reactives have all changed with Kunark. We will keep the same six buttons that we have from the start and they will upgrade every 20 levels but never be replaced. Tinkering and Transmuting now have the same 6 buttons instead of 4. And Domino (who is my hero along with Denmom, btw) has changed them so that they are more even as far as success between the classes.

So IMO, it's a bit of luck, yeah, anything that relies on the RNG is luck, but you can change bad into good if you just know how.

If I can't make my own luck, I change the system. :P

The most important thing most people don't understand about crafting is that the updates happen in timed pulses, and you need your reactions arts ready to see if a pulse brings up an icon. It's so simple (don't hit a reaction art more than once between pulses) but so many people at level 70 are still fucking it up by spamming mindlessly.

Normally I hit durability until the first bar is full then progress right until the end. The only time I deviated was during early grinding and when I did BCG as a 35 sage.
