OMG trivial?
I have been an armorer since release. At that time you had to make all the sub-components and understand (somewhat) about what actually went into making a particular item.
It was interesting (although boring sometimes grinding out these sub-components)..
These days, you get a final recipe with the listed components in 1 combine (2 for imbued depending which artisan you follow).
The point of this concern is how easy crafting is. It has become a joke, my coercer armorer litterally stays at 100% (almost) permanently even on rush orders.
Crafting has become just a trivial time-sink to me for making a little cash and crafting some armor for some peeps.
My suggestion:
I remember in EQ1 where certain creatures had to be killed for specific parts (nightmare compound bow for example from the Plane of nightmare) for specific recipes. I realise there are lots of recipes, some can mix and match and some should require more unique components, rather than just "generic rare from Tier-X" + few raws from "any" plant/rock etc etc. /yawn
The sub-components should be brought back imo, except each time you craft one, based on pristine etc, you receive back X-components.
e.g. Padding for some armor. I craft the sub-component padding and complete it on the 4th bar (pristine) I therefore receive 4 paddings. I can't remember exactly if thi sis how it was (earlier before they fucked it all up with this all-in-one-recipe crap) but I guess that depends on what artisan you are.
Q. Why can't crafting be challenging again?
Q. Why can't crafting be interesting again?
Q. Why??

Re: OMG trivial?
Would be nice to get some sweet quests where nearly every component is adventured for, and the final product is crafted.
Something like Earring of the Solstice from eq1

Re: OMG trivial?
The current system is far too generic and trivial imo.
I can't believe that soem ppl/guild exclusively craft

Re: OMG trivial?
I began crafting armor at game launch as well. EQ2 crafting is dead bloated corpse. When the game launched, I had hoped they would have allowed for more customization of crafted gear (i.e. the ability to determine stat bonus and resist bonus).
The only thing I did not enjoy was the lack of a factory or some other form of mass production ala SWG.

Re: OMG trivial?
Strokes for folks. I hated original crafting (armourer since launch too). I've crafted a lot more since subs etc were taken away (although for some odd reason I didn't mind making the prov subs - maybe because of all the disco XP they provided).
In the very early days ofc you couldn't even make it all yourself. You had to buy or trade for various elements of the subs or the subs themselves; patterns, washes, studs blah blah. What a pain the ass. Not for me that.

I like the idea of collecting components from mobs as well as harvesting. I think that they've started implementing things like this now. The tradeskill components and recipes from EH for example. More recently, the meat for making food now drops from creatures. These are small steps, but it's a start.
The new tradeskill dev, Domino, is really good imo. She seems to listen to the players so keep posting and sending feedback. She's really active on the official boards so if you can, I would suggest posting your ideas there as well.
But I agree with Merdo on the subs.

Re: OMG trivial?
I wouldn't want to have to get every drop from mobs, but certain ones are fine. Imagine being a low level adventurer and being held hostage by the prices that adventurers decided to charge for something you needed.
For instance right now the shard to make the mirrors is going for 40P+ on our server. Conversationally, meats, which I thought might go higher, are only a copper. Probably cuz there's an over-abundance of them.
I actually left the game for a few months when crafting changed. Not just for that reason, some health issues too, but I would have probably stayed on even with the back pain if I hadn't been so mad, lol.
When I came back tho, I gave it a shot. And I was happily surprised that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. What I do miss tho is the camaraderie that went along with the interdependance. Sure it was a pain sometimes, I agree there. It was also fun to be talking in Qeynos_Crafting all day with people who were doing the same thing and trading work and conversation and friendship. Crafting channel has never been the same since.

Re: OMG trivial?
I agree that atm crafting is pretty mindless - heck i used to have to work on my alchy to get pristines (carpenter has always been easy) but now at least i spose they are on equal footing. I dont miss subcombines. As a carpenter they did make it easier to lvl (we got so shafted on # of recipies to pristine - lvl 41 making 10000 billion bear rugs ftl), but they also ensure i never made an end product cos it was such a pain in the ass to get all the stuff to make a freaking table or whatever.
I dont like the idea of adventure lvl based mats being brought it but thats only because most of my crafters are low adventure lvl high crafting. Something to add a bit of spice would be nice but i dont really have a good solution /shrug. I adore domino though - despite the recent ez mode crafting is in rok, i think she listens well and is actually trying to please crafters, which is a breath of fresh air in itself.
