I agree with the OP. Stupid design compared to the Freep version of this house.

I'm a freeporter but love to decorate... can you try using some of the old teir carpets to create a flat surface 1st (ones you can't fall through), then place your stuff so it don't fall through? Just a tip, hope it works. But housing has been poor from day 1. FP houses have uneven walls all around...and you can't place anything on the ceiling in about 40% of the 5 roomers.

No matter what you do to get around it, it looks bad, the elevation difference between center and edge adds a cramped feeling, and a workaround looks flaky, every single time.

Please your house is about twice the size of the Freeport 5 room house. If anyone should complain it should be us.

The dirt pile, imo, should be optional - I like it to a certain extent, but that said, I've had to learn to work around it. The idea is to give you an outdoor feeling in a house with no patio, but it sorta...fails.

I've made a dueling pit out of it like someone mentioned above - torches around the outside, and stacked benches/simple gnome tables for "bleachers" - a few hangings and voulah, fight club. If you have status with the Qeynos Guard, you can pick up some training dummies to go in there as well.

Someone else wanted a dojo, so we covered up the dirt and he hung weapons around the outside, hung feysteel lanterns from the corners and tapestries down the middle.

The Norrathian Homeshow forums are full of gardens, so no need to post that one.

If you'd rather do it yourself, here are a couple suggestions:

Yep stuff sinks in - in some places all the way down, in others not so much. You can get around this with the control + scroll (for finer adjustments: alt+control + scroll), BUT if you do this starting anywhere, sometimes with rugs the heights end up varying... I get around it by starting in one corner, raising the item to the height I want, then moving it into place, lather+rinse+repeat until I get to that corner.

In other cases, you're trying to get something to sink in (like the tables) and they won't go...move around the spot and change the angle of where you're standing. Believe it or not, sometimes it will fall into place due to your camera perspective. /doh The Simple Gnome Tables have a certain angle that, once you find it, they fall right into place neatly.

Stuff that works:
Simple Gnome Tables - about 25 or so - not a pretty wood floor, but a wood "deck" none the less & you can line them up to look like continuous planks. The legs on these tables are JUST tall enough to set the wood even/a touch above the surrounding brick w/o showing. Makes a good "deck" floor for a bar, dojo, etc.

Sandlewood Platforms - unfortunately this will not build a "smooth" wood floor like the tables (the edges of the platforms + the two sets of stairs = ridges in the floor), but it takes considerably less of them, and they fit into place relatively easily - I just start at one side and line them up so they cover the whole dirt plot. You're left with a big raised platform you can cover with carpets. I've set mine in a square and built a garden plot in the center of them. Looks Druidy...but it's a druid's house!

Rough Linen Rugs - by far one of the bigger pains in the asses - you'll want to start at one corner to get the right height, and move them into place...then there's the whole 'lining them up" and "square rugs in a rectangle room..." thing... There's a couple other rugs you don't fall through you can use to make flooring, they have a bit more southwestern appearance (roughspun or broadcloth, IIRC).

Oggokian Rock Tables - place together well, hard to get the edges neat and get it all fitting in place.

Those are the best ^ so far. The rest = not so hot. You could use the oak tables for status reduction and a floor, but the legs will show and it'll be quite high off the floor.
