Default Crafting ignoramus

Forgive me if this should be on the noobie forum, but I thought I'd go here first as you are the experts. I've just started crafting and have a question. There must be something more to crafting than assembling ingredients, standing in front of the workbench and countering glitches. Sometimes I create pristines, other times not. I seem to be doing the same thing each time, only with varying results. I've read most of the threads (the complete guide to crafting is excellent btw) and see mention of a durabilty button, but for the life of me I dont know what that is. Or maybe it's something else i"m missing or not doing. Can someone please enlighten me--I'd like to do this right. Thanks

When you get the crafting window open to start a recipe, down across the bottom are six brightly colored icons, numbered 1-6.

The first three are durability, the second three are progress.

Mouse over each and read carefully what each thing does.

When durability is dropping, mash durability buttons. You can "spam" buttons even when you are not countering an adverse event.

When your durability is OK, toss in progress buttons to help it complete faster.

Experiment a little and you'll get it!

If you watch the crafting table, you'll notice that every 3-5 seconds, a set of red/green numbers come up. This is the END of a crafting round. Crafting rounds take about 4 seconds each. You should have enough time during each round to press 3 of your buttons. Which 3 buttons you press should be determined by how full the 4th green bar is in the crafting progress window. I am always pressing buttons cause I'm impatient. It usually takes me less than a minute to craft each recipe.

At the end of each round, you should stop pressing any buttons because you want to be ready to REACT to any problem that pops up.

I get 99.99% pristine. ;)

Don't forget to do the Tradeskill Writs ! These are an excellent way to cap those levels when your pristine "first time" experience runs out... and make a bit of cash and status on the side

These are available from the Tradeskill vendors right inside the instance, and come in Tier choices, along with time constraint options.

Yup, been doing those--good to get to next level and my guild loves me for them

Now if only the prices for crafted goods had some rational relationship to cost of ingredients. It's frustrating to craft an item using a rare that costs 12 gold and see it on the broker for 90 silver grrrr.
