Default Major House Change for serious decorators

Posted by Domino (sorry - I'm not good with the whole "quote" thing) -- link here

As most home decorators are no doubt aware, it's possible to put multiple "Lore" items in a home, even though "Lore" should mean that a character can only have one item. This generally isn't a big problem, but it does allow certain types of items to be duplicated when that was not the intention.

We have been discussing a change that would enforce the "Lore" tag even on house items. This is for consistency, common sense, and to close loopholes for potential future exploits, should any other duplicatable items slip in.

This change would mean that:
  • you could only have one "Lore" flagged item of the same type in your home at a time.
  • if you already have one Lore item in your room and try to place another identical one, you would get an error message and be unable to.
  • if you have multiple Lore items of the same type in your room and move houses, you would not be able to remove the duplicates from your moving crate.
  • duplicate Lore items that already exist in your home would not vanish, but once removed, could not be re-placed.
But wait ...

Yes, we realize that there are quite a lot of house items flagged "Lore" that people like to use several copies of. The Stein of Moggok was a popular one for bars, although now there's a selection of quested and crafted drinking utensils, this should be pretty easy to replace. But city merchant and faction items would be another good example, also snow globes, and various other things.

What we would like to do is remove the "Lore" flag from anything that doesn't actually need it. It's clear that there are a lot of "Lore" items that really don't need it in the slightest.

So the purpose of this post is to:
  1. Alert the decorators of Norrath that this change is being discussed and is potentially coming up (most likely not GU44, but possibly GU45 or one after)
  2. Give anybody interested the opportunity to note any particular house items that they are concerned should not (or should) be flagged as "Lore"
  3. Reassure everybody that we know there's lots of creative decoration out there that involves "Lore" items and there's no intention to disrupt that, we have every intention of either removing "Lore" flags or making some similar appearance items available if that's not appropriate.
If there are any "Lore" items that you specifically use multiples of in your homes, please feel free to note the name of the item to be sure we don't overlook it. Once again, this is not being rushed to live, this is just under discussion at the moment, and this is your chance to be involved in the discussion if you wish. " />

On top of the fact that this is such a bullshit change, I'm miffed that they're worried about this instead of game-breaking shit.

Here's my "polite" response:

So ....

If we use an alt's L&L rewards and heritage rewards to make a massive weapon wall display and then move, we cannot re-place those items back on the wall ? Why even allow alts to place things in our homes then if you're going to limit what they can put in it?

Sorry Domino, but I'll be honest, this change bites the big one.

This is a HUGE fundamental change for us serious home decorators who have spent years and many many alts to make our homes like we want them. I have decorated and re-decorated my home and my husband's homes so many times that honestly, I don't even know who's items are who's anymore. On top of which, I've had friends that have left the game that put their L&L items and heritage items in my home to add to the decor. Their accounts are no longer active and I couldn't log them on to put their items somewhere else. Last, not every alt can get to all houses - I have lower level alts that had put items in my arasai's house then betrayed - they can no longer go back to Neriak without getting killed.

Also, all status merchant items are lore - (which I never understood as it was a pain in the butt to have to go to the merchant over and over and over for things like pedestals and counters.) Tradeskill status items are also lore. I don't understand why we should only be allowed to have one of these in our house. We earned the status, we should be allowed to spend it as we wish, with multiple items that we EARNED the right to purchase.

How about instead -- since it's the buying of multiple heritage items, etc. from the Shady Swashbuckler that's the issue, why not just make it so it's coding picks up that your house counts as your "inventory" and doesn't allow you to do so. I just haven't seen the issues you address as "game-breaking" issues. In all seriousness, is it truly affecting gameplay for a homeowner to have 2 "moonstone" pools (the collection reward that is) in their garden? Is it affecting gameplay for a homeowner to have an impressive weapon display then use an alt's rewards to add "oomph" to a kitchen as knives on a wall or a butcherblock display?

And yes, I realize that you said items placed already would not be affected, but honey, I change houses as often as I change underwear!

Eh.

I just think it's bullshit that they're focusing on this when there's other things to focus on. And I think that this is going to create more heartache then what it's worth.

But that's just my opinion. I take my decorating seriously as I use it as a tool to earn money in game - not everyone takes it like me.

Of course, if they did, I wouldn't have any clients *grin*

The only thing I agree with here is that there are A LOT of items with the lore tag, that just don't need it.

Who cares if you have TWO completely useless potted plants from some quest?
