Go to the Norrathian Homeshow Forum on EQ2Players. There is
a whole huge thread on Fish Tanks, and several posts discuss the technique and components.
1: Pick a base, for instance, one of the Mahogany Counters:
2. Create a frame, for example, by stacking an Ornate Ferrite Table on top of your base.
3. Behind the fish tank, you need some
Leviathan Unbound paintings, available from the City Merchants:
Overlap the paintings to minimize the amount of frame showing.
If you are really slick, you can use a bookcase to slightly angle the paintings and sink the inside frame edges into the plane of the wall, this hiding them altogether... and if that sentence made no sense to you, just stick with plopping the paintings on the wall side-by-side as usual. I'd have to show you what I mean in-game.
The purpose of the paintings i to get that blue watery coloration behind the tank.
4. Next, get some Mystical Mirrors. Place these on top of your
Leviathan paintings. This gives you the water effect.
5. Depending on your design, you may want to hide the edges of the mirrors using columns, for example the Small Sandworn Pillar:
6. Stock the tank. You get your fish doing three quests in Timorous Deep for Citizen Niba'Ouz. The
walkthroughs are available at EQ2i.
Put other items in the tank as strikes your fancy. A couple of quests reward things such as bottles, the replicas of the griffon towers or spires that were rewards for those World Events. The crafted Alabaster Eggs and Marble Eggs are good. Bonsai trees (a /claim item) are very nice.
Look at pictures of other fishtanks in the
Norrathian Homeshow Fish Tank thread and see what you like.
Not sure what that thingamajigger is? Look it up at
EQ2 Trader's Corner and
Everseek... both have pictoral guides to house items. EQ2 Trader's Corner focuses on player-crafted items, Everseek also includes merchant goods, quest rewards, and faction items.
7: Put a top on the tank. This is optional, since the table used for the frame does give you a lid, but most people either use the same item that forms the base or some more furniture like top. Again, check out the pics in the
Norrathian Homeshow Fish tank thread.
8: Still stonkered? Most of the folks who posted
fish tank pictures in the Norrathian Homeshow ALSO give their server, character name, and address. Go look at some in person. You can right-click on items to get an examine window up to see what that item is. Use a notepad and WRITE DOWN THE NAMES.
