Which tradeskill to pick ?
Hi
I posted this question on the official forums too, but the replies were mainly "pick what you like" which is not really what i want to hear to be honest :D
I am looking for a tradeskill that
-has some game use (so not furnituring )
-That people will need (both so i can earn some money, and also help guildes, so i dont feel i have wasted my time)
-That has some use for my class
-That not everyone has
-That has some use later on
While i appreciate that some people like dressing up their home, thats not really me, i prefer questing questing questing and more questing.
I have been pondering this for weeks now, i am a 49 mystic, and might get into raiding when i get higher level, (thats about the background info i can give you)
Im asking here because i like the honesty of these forums, people speak their mind instead of sugar coating stuff. Please tell me if some trades are outright crappy

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
I mastered weaponsmithing. I found it to be the most monotonous thing ever. Granted, at lower levels, my skills came in handy to some of my alts and for friends, as the masterwork weaponry is decent, but I haven't had a whole lot of use at level 80, other than completing the Weaponsmith update for people's TS epic.
I'd suggest Sage or Alchemist...possibly Jeweler. They seem to have the most use, in my opinion, being that they are capable of making adept 3 versions of spells. Personally, if I could restart, I would likely go jeweler - scout skills and jewelry pieces could be lucrative.

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
I'd go Provisioner.
I have all tradeskillers and the one that is the most useful is the prov, whatever I make that I don't need always sells on the broker, and since the stuff scales to level I can let my lower toons use any level I am making instead of having to harvest low level raws for their food and drinks.
There are no rare books to buy.
And nobody harvests the shrubs so you will have plenty of raws =)

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
To fulfil your criteria Id agree with the previous poster and say Provisioner and for the same reasons he has stated. As I have one I can tell you it's fairly boring levelling up and some levels you get just four new recipes so rush orders all the way for quick levelling imo.
Of the other TS's I have Id say carpenter was the most enjoyable (but then Im a girl and I love making new items and decorating my houses). Woodworking and jewellry are the most profitable by far but that's mainly because Im still levelling those skills and I dont have time to make all the things I know would sell on the provvie and the carpenter. for example I could make arrows all day long and know they will sell but there's so much else to dooooooo
I hope you enjoy your new profession - whatever you choose!

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
A class that not everyone has, but can make good money, is usefull and stuff? Hell why u think people chose classes? because they can't make money, are worthless and so on?
Tradeskills which are usefull at 80's and can earn u money will always be what people play most!
Focus on things people consume - Alchy provides potions AND spells - which I think is quiet good. Then again there are not that many tanks out there in T8 nowadays. Also potions are used often in raids and they have there only alchis. On our server are a hell of a lot provisioners, so maybe check the broker for potions and drink/food - jeweler maybe also nice due to scout spells!
I would pick alchi anyway since u potions can help u a lot soloing or grouping! and they sell!

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
Really, all of the TS's have end game use. It's kind of dumb to insinuate otherwise...
The boxes you can make with carpentry is great for selling when you can afford the 5 room house (which, btw, you'll need lot's of carpentry items to reduce the weekly status payment for rent). It's pretty friggin hard to make money with limited broker space...
For usefulness for your class, Sage is a good one. You're about to hit the 50s which means you'll be paying other sages for spells if you don't take it. This is also very helpful to guildies who have casters that aren't sages. Provisioning is always great and always needed.
Woodworker is great for totems, and arrows always sell well.
Tailoring would be limited in it's usefulness, but as a squishy I found that having the guild tailor make my gear from 22-62 made it a breeze. I think the tailored cloth gear is best in game until you hit the 70s (just my opinion). So, while it won't help your class out, it'll definitely help out guildies if you're in a casual guild.
Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing are of limited use to you, mostly because of the level reason above in tailoring. Of course, they did just redo the weaponsmithing class in a way and I'm not sure how good the improvement is there.
Alchemy is to SKs, Gaurdians, Berserkers, etc as Sage is to casters (maybe a bit oversimplified, but the analogy stands true for the most part). Poisons sell well of course. Huge help when it comes to keeping stock full for raiding or just general gameplay.
I'm a little surprised by the comment "which is not really what i want to hear to be honest :D" That's crazy....what the hell do you want to hear??? Play the game based on how you want to play it; why do you want someone else to tell you how to play? And to put down carpentry is just dumb, since how the hell are you going to sell all of these wonderful provisioning items without broker space??
Anyway, pick your poison. Some people always want what the don't have...

Re: Which tradeskill to pick ?
Just to backtrack a bit, the original comments to you were by far the best advice.
Do what you want/enjoy. What one person enjoys, another will find extremely painful.
That said, there are a ton of provisioners on Guk. There are even more armorsmiths imo. Sages are plentiful as well, but always useful regardless. Woodworkers can come in handy, and not just for house decor. Carpenters have some really nice itms that sell as well. Alchemists are usually what I see people looking for, and the potions/spells they can make are always handy. I know there are more, but these are the ones that stand out to me.
IMO, the single most important thing to consider... Are you going to be harvesting your own supplies, if not, you,d better start checking broker for pricing on anything you might buy ( clusters, loams, wood... Can be hella expensive ).
Hope it helps...

I just wanted to add that there are no crappy tradeskills, they all have value and worth.
Besides Provisioner, the other ones I would consider are Alchemist and Jeweler because they use soft metals and gems and they are usually the cheapest raw on the broker so you would usually be able to get them fairly inexpensively.
