Default Getting Started in Tradeskills in Everquest 2 - Calthine's Definitive Guide

Cathine's Definitive Guide to Getting Started in Tradeskills in Everquest 2

The nature of a MMPORG is a constantly changing environment, just like the Real World. As Everquest 2 has developed, it has gotten confusing for a new player to figure out exactly how to start Tradeskilling, since there are now many NPCs one may speak to and the procedure varies according to where your character starts adventuring and where they are when they decide to take up crafting.

This guide assumes you have done absolutely nothing toward becoming an Artisan – if you examine your Persona window the only experience bar is for adventuring, you have no Artisan skills, and there is no Tradeskill tab in your Knowledge Book.

This guide is designed to get the new player to a Crafting Trainer to gain Artisan level 2 so they may begin crafting. It will help people with questions like: “Who is the Tradeskill Delegate anyway?” “Why can't I scribe any recipes?” “I'm at a workstation and there's nothing to make!”

Starting Tradeskills in Kelethen (Greater Faydark)
If your character started it's Norrathian adventures in Kelethen or Greater Faydark, you'll need to make your way to Kelethen proper to begin crafting. If you follow the beginning quests in the Nursery you may be near adventure level 10 before you get there, but that won't hurt your crafting any.

Take a lift up to Kelethen proper and make your way to Tunare's Pages. Find Ralika Mekkila <crafting trainer="">. Hail her, follow the dialog, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career.

Please note that at the time of publication the “Choosing a Profession” quest was not available in Kelethen.

Starting Tradeskills In Freeport
If you have not left the Outpost of the Overlord (starting isle):
Walk around the back of the tower in the main yard. You'll see Trainer Arthur Merrin <skilled artisan="" and="" crafter="">. Hail him and follow the dialog. He will give you introductory instructions, and the note “Starting a Tradeskill Profession” which will start the aforementioned “Choosing a Profession” quest. Again, the “Choosing a Profession” quest is optional, but this NPC has a good introduction to the whole process.

However, he didn't give you Artisan status. Zone into the workshop next to him (it looks like a cellar door). A popup will prompt your to speak to the Wholesaler. Hail Garfa Gillgrinder, follow the dialog, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career.

If you have left the Outpost of the Overlord:
If you skipped the crafting training on the Outpost, you'll need to make your way to one of the various Tradeskill Workshops in the Freeport slums (note that you can not become an Artisan at the Coalition of Tradesfolke in West Freeport). These are:

</skilled></crafting>
  • Beggar's Court: The Ring of Wanderlust
  • Big Bend: The Ransacker's Annex
  • Longshadow Alley: The Dark Bargainers
  • Scale Yard: The War Hagglers
  • Starcrest Commune: The Luminary Cache
  • Stonestair Byway: The Brokerage of Nepeta Cataria
  • Temple Street: The Circle of Vaniki

You have two options to gain Artisan status:

Outside each workshop you'll find <crafting trainer="">, who coincidently will sell most of your essential recipe books. Hail this NPC, follow the dialog, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career. Remember this Trainer: you'll want to speak to him again at level 9 and 19 to declare your Artisan Class and Subclass.

You can also enter the workshop and find the NPC Wholesaler (who sells your fuels and assorted non-harvested Provisioner supplies), Hail them, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career.

Starting Tradeskills In Qeynos
If you have not left the Queen's Colony (starting isle):
Walk around the back of the tower in the main yard. You'll see Trainer Gregory Collins <skilled artisan="" and="" crafter="">. Hail him and follow the dialog. He will give you introductory instructions, and the note “Starting a Tradeskill Profession” which will start the aforementioned “Choosing a Profession” quest. Again, the “Choosing a Profession” quest is optional, but this NPC has a good introducton to the whole process.

However, he didn't give you Artisan status. Zone into the workshop next to him (it looks like a cellar door). A popup will prompt your to speak to the Wholesaler. Hail Newman Hines, follow the dialog, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career.

If you have left the Queen's Colony:
If you skipped the crafting training on the Colony, you'll need to make your way to one of the various Tradeskill Workshops in the Qeynos suburbs (note that you can not become an Artisan at the Ironforge Exchange in North Qeynos). These are:

</skilled></crafting>
  • Nettleville Hovel: The Elusive Commonwealth
  • Starcrest Commune: The Luminary Cache
  • Graystone Yard: The Stalwart Township
  • Castleview Hamlet: Charter of the Truthbringer
  • Willow Wood: Wayfarer's Stockpilers
  • The Baubbleshire: The Deductive Directory

You have two options to gain Artisan status:

Outside each workshop you'll find <crafting trainer="">, who coincidently will sell most of your essential recipe books. Hail this NPC, follow the dialog, and you will Ding Artisan level 2 and receive Artisan Essentials Level 2. Scribe the book (right click it and click “Scribe”), and you are ready to start your Crafting Career. Choosing a Profession”
You'll hear a lot about the “Choosing a Profession” quest. It's a nice crafting training quest which orients you to the crafting process, gives you a taste of the major Artisan types, and coincidently provides you with 7 free recipe books, an Artisan's tunic with + stats to tradeskilling, and a handy bag to hold your resources. The confusion comes because the Choosing a Profession class has absolutely nothing to do with the mechanics of becoming an Artisan or declaring your class and subclass.

Let me repeat that, loudly: The “Choosing a Profession” quest is completely optional to any0 tradeskiller.

To Start “Choosing a Profession”
If your spoke to a Crafting Trainer on the Outpost or Colony, you'll want to examine the note you received entitled “Starting a Tradeskill Profession” to get the quest, then seek out a Tradeskill Delegate. If you didn't speak to the Trainer or discarded the note, seek out a Tradeskill Delegate, who conveniently sells them.

The recipes in the “Choosing a Profession” quest start at level 3; you'll need to make one or two level 2 combines form that book the Trainer or Wholesaler gave you.

There is a Delegate in every workshop in a slum or suburb. There's a lot of NPC's in there, but the Tradeskill Delegate has a tag which say (strangely enough) <tradeskill delegate="">. In Qeynosian Workshops he is at the top of the stairs; In Freeport Workshops he's at the bottom of the stairs near the Broker.

Is that all?
Well, no, of course that's not all. You still need to harvest raws and learn to use the Creation interface and apply your Tradeskill Arts. But you have now gotten through the mechanics of declaring yourself an Artisan and are ready to go!</tradeskill></crafting>
