Default Transmutating broken?

Just came back to the game and decided to work on my transmutating skills. I was at 99 out of something and got only one skill up and haven't had anymore for the last 42 items I transmutated.

Is anyone else having a problem not getting skillups or I think I might have had a power spike to my computer and it did something with the RNG and made me always fail or something. Let me know if this happens you too thank!

You only get skill ups from transmuting til 100, after that you get skill ups from combines only.

I hate transmuting but, that being said, I read that if you do the lvl 1 combines you will still progress. That being said the problem was getting the powders. I found that by making the lvl 1-9 adp 3 spells and muting them, I got a powder almost all the time. I tried the farming the trial isle for drops but they became fewer and farther between. Now I'm just gathering there for rares, making spell scrolls and muting them. I did try making armor, weapons, etc from the t1 rares, but muting them usually produced a fragment. Better powder drop from the spell scrolls. It will be a long road to 400, but what else do I have to spend my time on?

Like they said, you can't get above 100 by transmuting items, you have to craft adornments for skillups past 100.

Easiest thing I've found to do was to bring an AE class to caves, mentor a lvl 15 and blow shit up. Mobs are rather close to each other and a few blue AEs will usually get you at least 3-5 chests. Transmute all that crap then make adornments with it. Have fun, long way to 400, but you can do it all off T1 shit.

Or, if you want an even easier way..... switch to tinkering

How long does it take with T1 items ? I've been spending plat on 50-59 fragments for 250 - 300 .

I read thats its less than 25% chance of a skill up with grey recipies.

Approximately 1 in 7 chance for skillup if you use T1 materials.

Making a legendary or fabled combine is an almost guaranteed skill up. What I did was made a new char on my bfs account and mentored down to kill junk for gear, but you can usually find pretty cheap legendary and fabled t1 and t2 gear. Keep in mind there are no fabled combines in t1 tho so don't buy those fabled unless you want to just try for an infusion from them.

The minimum chance is a 1 in 4 chance. Of course the RNG could be having a bad day and you end up with a streak a lot worse but it should average out.

The cheapest way to level up is on the tier one stuff. You can generally get transmutable items for under 3g each and sometimes even the T1 adept3 rares for about the same price.

Check out the guide over on eq2traders. That should answer most of your questions.
