Default New Troub! DPS, Armor, and AAs!

So, I got me a Troubador. He's lvl 28 atm. Reading over the boards here, I take it we're really into trying to get a lot of DPS. Is that really one of our goals? From what I understood (as I was uneducated, I'm sure) is that Troubs have some pretty bad dps, and more or less we should focus on being the support Mages, and some melee know and love.

So this brings me to another question, then. As far as trying to suite up for armor, should I go for Str over anything, or a balance of Str, Int/Power? While raising both would be awesome to raise power pool, spell damage and melee damage, most gear comes with either one or the other, or force you to compromise something to get both, whether it's one of the stats or mitigation. But as far as mitigation goes, I could care less, since my role isn't to tank, after all. But this changes if I want to solo. =/

And then AAs. Currently, I don't have very many points, but right now my goal is:

WIS: 4-4-6-8-2 (2 so far)
STA: 4-4-4-8 (4-4-4-1 so far)
INT: 4-1

Does this seem good? I was looking into the AGI line, and kind of miss the roguish aspect of the scout class. I absolutely love my Assassin, but he can't get any Rogue-like abilities/customizations besides the stupid Bounty AA.t all of the skills on AGI look neat. I know the WIS line is just a defaulted must, so that brings my choices down.

Anything else I should know? Since I'm doing the STA line, there should be no need to not have a shield anymore, right?

We did have bad DPS. Our DPS is now above average IMO. Once you hit 58 and get PoTM, you'll see a noticable a big increase.

Go for STR because your self buff will give you plenty of INT (220+ or so at 80). Don't worry about AGI.

You should always carry a shield because if you get aggro, you can swap it in real quick for extra avoidance. Also, you can use Shield Bash if you have a shield which is useful for soloing.

The popular choice's seem to be exactly what you have plus AGI: 4 4 4 8

or if you plan to raid and what to give up some DPS for survivability, a good choice might be STR line which offers AOE avoid.

Sweet, thanks! But on that quote...

So generally, when soloing, I should use a shield if dual wielding isn't cutting it for me, and during groups I should use dual wielding until I manage to grab some aggro? More or less something like that? I understand though that I have to experiment on my own, but I don't want to have to buy anything excessively.

Unless you get into some pretty good gear, and with some pretty good weapons, you won't be getting much aggro in groups that the group shouldn't be able to handle.

Just macro in the shield for your shield bash if you feel you are taking too much damage when you are soloing, but you should be fine dual-wielding by start ranged, doing a short kite, and then going in for the kill with your 2 stuns keeping most damage off you.

That's pretty much what I do. Sometimes if my health spikes when soloing or I get an add, I'll take the shield out until I get things under control.

Just be careful when you get your mez, and you have the agility line, that poison procs just about every bow shot (using a Wuoshi bow here), so be prepared to be frustrated.

The charm can be very helpful if you put the AA's in it, but from the sounds of this, you are quite a bit aways from getting to this point.

#1 most annoying thing when soloing a named as a troubador. I think Paikis was the one who suggested to make this toggleable and I agree it should be.
