I don't think over focusing on ranged/spell damage is gonna get you the results you want. Your problem lies more in your raid then yourself. There are steps you take to be more proficient at jousting and avoiding damage, but avoiding melee is a poor route to take imo.

Is it frontals or riposte you are dieing to? Are other scouts dieing too ? Frontal AE's can be timed like most other AE's. Either the scouts are getting unlucky and ripping right when frontal AE's are due ( in this case a timer letting you know to be wary at certain times can help) or the scouts are always ripping (Tanking issue needs to resolved by raid leadership before other corrections can be made.)

Know your joust ranges and make use of your speed in combat. How often do you see people run 30-40 meters out for AE's ? There are 3 basic types of AE's, unavoidable( same damage at any range or 99), short range(only those closer then a set distance5-20 meter take damage), distance proportionate (Usually the closer you are the more damage you take set numbers as in0-5-15-25-99). A great jousting troub will move only as far needed and barely break his cast/CA order as he runs in and out avoiding aes. Keeping your own timers and your own list of ranges for mobs AE's will help. Also minimizing lost swings by fast switches from bow to melee while jousting can help.Knowing how to be a good raider in general is just as important as knowing how to play your class.

Thanks for the reply! At the moment, the guild I am raiding with is rebuilding for the fifth or so time...I started helping lead raids, and we have been re piecing together our raid force. at the moment, we are starting out from scratch again...we are just now getting past naga, and starting work on harder TSO stuff. So, aggro is weak, and between the rest of what I am doing, timing frontals hasnt been something I can do.

right now, because i have no time for grouping between work and raids ussually, i have almost no crit mit, and in the TSO zones I get eaten alive. so, I was wondering if it was a viable option to go with mostly ranged dps untill our raid force is a bit more settled. From what everyone has been saying, its never going to be a good option, and I just need to suck it up untill I have better gear and aggro is more solid.

By the way, not having a big problem with ripostes or normal AOE's...so far its mostly been auto attacks from accidental pulls or mem wipes. Depending on the AOE incomming is how far I adjust my joust ranges.I have spells and bow ranges that tell me 25, 35, 45+ meters, and depending on range and severity I adjust....I dont die to most jousted AOE's.

but yeah, I was just wondering how much ranged DPS was to see if it was a viable option, and so far, it doesnt seem to be.

You can do more DPS ranged than dead...



If you find yourself having to stay out on certain fights, /shrug, it can happen with lack of gear. Or try losing the Signet for a night and see if you die less.

heh, not dieing from pulling. I rarely steal aggro...if i get TC and other goodies, then its on a group fight and i cycle my debuffs on and off to get the proc from PoTM...if i spike over 8k with betrayal on i sometimes pull and die, but normally the deaths are from frontals...i have only had the signet and some of my nicer pieces for about a week. I finally have a few pieces of fabled chain, so my survivability already went way up, along with spending points on buffing the defensive song on the TSO tree.
