Especially this expansion, I mean if you run a couple instances a week I can't imagine what your spending all your money on unless you have an army of alts you need to have fully fabled at every tier.

Re: Accounts Hacked
Oi... Ya, I've heard of so many hacked accounts lately on multiple servers. It's scary.

Re: Accounts Hacked
I know of 13 in the past 3 weeks myself. These are people i know and play with now or were guilded and played with in the past. Stupidity is one thing, but what is going on now isn't stupidity it's a keylogger. 6 of the 13 have actually found a keylogger in thier system after upgrading thier spyware/virus protection to a better one..to me this isn't a case of everyone being stupid at the same time... to damn many happening for it to be that.

Re: Accounts Hacked
A little of both I guess. There are a couple of free ways to help protect yourself:
1. Use Firefox instead of IE. 0$
2. Use AVG Anti-virus. It's free and works well. 0$
3. Spybot Search and Destroy. The tea-timer feature will actually alert you if a program tries to modify a registry entry. (I'm sure others do as well, but I've used Spybot for years and like it) 0$
4. Check for windows updates and updates to firefox, AVG, and Spybot, or whatever you use on a regular basis. Better yet, most quality applications will let you schedule updates automatically. 0$
Use different usernames and passwords for different accounts. I bet a lot of these people who had their accounts compromised had the same Station name/toon name/guildportal name. Even worse, a lot of them probably had the same password as their username, which is incredibly stupid. My guildportal, eq2flames, eq2 account, and online banking all have different usernames and none share the same password. It can be inconvenient remembering different passwords for your accounts, but it's definitely more convenient than the alternative.

Hmmm here is where I disagree. The AVG you mentioned there, the 6 that found keyloggers were using that software.. it didn't find them. Once they upgraded from AVG to another program (Not sure which they used could be multiple diff ones), they found the keylogger.
I'm not so sure running AVG is the right choice...
Just my opinion.

Well thats sort of like saying, you bought new tires for your car, and the radio sounds like crap, so you shouldn't buy that brand of tires.
AVG (the free version) works for viruses not intended for keyloggers, so its not surprising that it didn't find it. As far as MMO scams go, the malware and Keyloggers are Extreamly advanced, and i've seen instances where they beat every anti-virus/spyware/malwar/rootkit detector that i've worked with.
The simple fact is, if you go to websites, and click on links, and sign up for accounts (even to fan sites like this) there is some amount of risk. There are things you can do to minimize the risk, like using different passwords for practically every account, installing a firewall that monitors changes and internet requests, but it can never be completely eliminated. If you are buying plat with a credit card, you are just begging to get screwed though.
