Default Charmeable Pets for Druids

Hi there

lvl 73 warden here on Nagafen Server, 102 AAs. Just tried out charm AA ability out of curiosity last night since I am doing alot of soloing lvling up to 80. Turns out this ability is much better than I suspected!

Managed to charm a Burynai off Field of Bone and the little meatshield dishes out quite well! Soloing encounters which would take me a bit over 30 secs to kill now take almost half the time and hardly any effort.

The AAs I've taken up for this purpose are:

Shapeshifting: 1
AGI: 4, 4, 8, 8
STR: 4, 4, 4, 5
STA: 4, 4, 4, 8

Enhance: Root 5/5
Enhance: Snare 3/3
Enhance: Spirit of Wolf 5/5
Enhance: Undergrowth 5/5 (group root)
Nature Walk 1/1

Fire Strike 5/5
Cold Strike 5/5
Cold Slice 5/5
Whirl of Frost 5/5
Force of Nature 1/1 (Increase melee crit chance 75%)

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a "detailed list" of the "proper pets" I could charm in each Kunark Zone?

Right now i definately see it as the way to go when soloing as a warden in the 70's. Is there a list somewhere about mob types per zone ? Some sort of list which indicates if the mob is an animal or not.

Never seen a bird with four legs ... oh wait, maybe you treat them as human beeings and not animals? :P What about fish? Snakes? Duuuuuude... there are a lot of animals without 4 legs ;)

You raise a good point there.

Well, I would say the best way to find out is test the Charm ability on every "Animal" you see... ^_^

I've doen with a few... And I insist this ability is great for soloing/duoing.. And PvP wise it has even helped me on quite a few occasions when getting ganked by someone 3 to 5 lvls higher, and I end up winning!!!

Badass pets out there for sure, Hurray for RoK .... For example the Burynai caster pet has a nasty nuke and you can find them both in Fens as well as in Kunzar Jungle... The Vespid Cosm-Callers, Elder Quatcha's or Gorillas, Dragon Drool Leeches are rather good alternatives as well.

But my favorite one is .. The Spiritwracked Chokidai !!!

A Troubador friend I duo with (just coming back to EQ2 after a few years away) pointed me to this. I balked at the 3 concentration slot cost, til I tried it. Well, I had to work up subjugation skill, but then, I was charming animals 2 levels over me, and using them to tank things while I continued to harvest. Give em a damage shield and an occational regen, and they are quite content to solo mobs 2 levels over yours while you keep harvesting. So, ya, you could say I'm a convert!

I had a question though, with pets - how many can you have? I am just about to hit 25 and was looking at deities. If I read right, tunare gives you one that is an actual pet pet, not just a follower. Can you have that, and a charmed animal at the same time? (Similar to a necro having their spell pet and a deity pet). I know you can have those follower guys in droves, but actual "send pet to attack" pets - is it 1 max?

Oh, and my 'helpful hint' to people trying charm out for the first time (other than make sure you max out subjugation, mine was abysmal at first!) is the SECOND you see the warning flash, don't try to re-charm. Use your ability you took to get to charm - and calm (mez) your now errant pet. They are mezzed for 3 sec after the warning that charm broke. Charm takes like 6 seconds, but calm is around 2 sec casting time. You usually have time to retarget and get that off without even having it turn on you at all. Invaluable when you are soloing. Mez un-charmed pet. Root what it was fighting (cause it now wants to beat you up), then recharm, and you are back in business!

Not sure how the Tunare miracle pets work, but you can certainly have more than 1 controllable pet at a time, else necromancers couldn't charm undead with their standard pets up. But good luck getting one backed off and another attacking -- all pets run off the same set of controls.

And I believe there's a 3 pet limit on the follower types. Haven't tested that in a while, though.

Kylong Plains - Drolvarg or the bigass worms close to the Fens zone-in.

Fens - Baublefinders in the Bone Field.

Kunzar - Burynai near the druid ring or Viscious Cosm-Callers near Dalnir's wheel.

JW - level 80 rhinos/cockatrice/sabretooths. I prefer sabretooths since they seem to hit harder and faster. Rhinos seem to take more damage, and cockatrice can stun mobs.

Seems they have made cockatrices uncharmable in JW.
