Default Can Wardens Actually DPS?

As the Title says can we actually dps?

I am a fairly well geared warden with a good grasp of healing and I am finding myself with more extra time to dps(especially with 2 healers in a group). But my parse seems low an average of between 700-800. Is this normal or is there a way to improve my parse? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

And as for spec do most wardens melee spec or spell crit spec? Which is better dps for us?

With a full melee spec setup and my craptastic gear, I can put down 2-3k DPS solo. Full str and int line AA, CA and melee crit AA and the TSO stuff. I'm sure with the right gear the numbers become exponentially greater. Pick up a decent 2 hander, max out your double attack and melee crit. Wclarry has some good posts discussing this topic. If your pulling dual duties as healer and dpsing try a hybrid setup. If I'm healing and Dpsing I can get between 2.5-4k depending on the group setup (single group). Your primary wants in either case are:

1.Good 2 hander (Thex mallet quest)
2.100% or greater melee and double attack crit
3.DPS mods (+DPS)
4. + to crush/slash skills (less misses)

That's all I can think about. Spend a little time soloing and hitting training dummies with ACT running and look at your numbers.

I've seen Sigvart clear 5k dps numerous times while solo healing Lower Corridors. Granted, he's super-human, but yeah wardens can parse quite well. Uluwen already laid out pretty much everything for you, and nailed it.

If you solo heal a lot, make a hybrid build. Of course, if you don't raid there's really only one build to bother with for melee spec in KoS (STR/STA/INT). INT line is better than it looks. Infusion will keep your parse up while your healing, you get an extra CA, and the +spell crit will help your procs to crit. damage proc gear will make up a substantial amount of DPS as a warden, given the limited number of attacks we get.

with the melee spec AAs it's very easy to max double attack and melee crit with only a few pieces of gear, so the big thing is +DPS mod, just so your auto attacks hit harder. +combat art damage is also good. If you're backup healing a group keep Instinct for yourself to help your hit rates (+pierce/crush/slash as Uluwen said).

Also, make sure you time your autoattacks so you never miss them. Once you get a solid 2hander this will pretty much make or break your parse, just like any "real" melee dps class. If you raid VP at all, try to get the 2hand staff from Nexona. It's a beast of a weapon and useful for basically nobody, so I doubt anyone else would want it. I don't have this or the Thex Mallet (my warden is only 78), so I'm not sure which would parse better, but I think the Supple Dogwood staff would hit harder, though the Thex Mallet will add some healing power making it easier to DPS and keep your group up. Get both, if you can!

My 78 warden in it's craptastic gear can get 1k zonewides backing up a crappy healer, but I'm still learning the class too, and only have about 110 AAs.
