Not at all. They are used extensively by melee wardens. The best DPS comes from a slow, heavy hitting weapon with nice big crits - and plenty of time to use CA's or spells between swings. There are discussions on maximising DPS elsewhere though so I won't go over it again here - but the CA's are definitely used.
