Default Trying desperatly to become the T1 DPS class this toon was meant to be. Need help.

    Good morning fellow Locks,

Have a few questions to ask, and would appreciate some feedback.

Having raided for a good 4 months now, I am finally starting to feel confident about my knowledge of what buttons do what, and the order of pushing them. Having said that, I still believe there is a ton of improvement to be had, as I am constantly being beat by a T2 DPS toon, that is in the same group as me (to be fair, she is a phenomenal player and just leaves the rest of us in the dust).
Before anyone leaves a reply to go read Nune’s or Mogrim’s guides, I HAVE READ THEM, re read them, read them a third time, lived by them, and am now trying to fine tune some things based on my experiences. I do not believe the answer to my questions lies in those two incredible literary pieces.

The following scenarios are for single target or maybe 2 unlinked target encounters. If there is no moving required, I typically end with about 13-15 DPS, if I remain in one spot for a majority of the fight.
    1. What is the role of Volatility? Do I need to keep this up all the time in order to be able to stand at 14m? I want to make sure I’m not casting this if it’s not really necessary. EDIT: Looks like i'm the only idiot specced for this, no idea when this changed but I'm assuming it's no longer necessary seeing as Mogrim and Nune dont have this in thier AA specs.
    2. When is the best time to use Sanguine? Do I refresh it as soon as it’s up, or is it better to wait for something? I used to do it on pull, and then renew whenever it came up, but that was me guessing.
    3. Other than UT, what other buffs should I be asking from my group members? Is there anything that is absolutely critical or could provide a mage such as myself a material boost that I am simply unaware of? Group comp is usually Myself (warlock), wiz, conj, troub, illy, and a mystic for a healer. (the conjy is the DPS machine btw)
    4. I can for the most part be in sync with my Illy ( I have a timer set up in ACT that helps) and get my Netherlord, Dark Infestation, Dark Pyre, and of course Acid renewed before TW hits. I also try to hit my Spellbind and FC is it’s up and then start working though my rotation (Apoc, and Rift, Toxic Assault, PB, Chains, Thunder Clap, Unda). Honestly though, by the time I get my first 3 spells off, TW is down, and I’m out of luck. Any macros I can make to make my rotation more efficient? Am I missing casting something before TW hits?
    5. Follow up on one of the things I mentioned above, with the Acit Rain, Netherlord, and Dark Infestation, do i only cast before each TW? I know they show up as pretty efficient in Nune’s spreadsheet but the caveat is that they stay alive to do damage…. How do I know if they stay alive? Is there a maintained icon I can see? I’m just trying to make sure I’m not wasting 5 seconds of cast time every minute since acid rain has a fairly long cast time.
    6. It takes me approximatly 40-45 seconds to get to 180 increments with single target encounters. Is it always worth it for me to wait for TW to dump my nuke along with PB and the others?
I’m sure I have more questions, and I’ll add them to this list as we go… I seriously appreciate all of the help, I know it’s a long list, but it will go a LONG way to helping me and other locks improve. I have a link to my character below:

    1. Volatility is used for ranged fights and ae fights, it helps extend the range of your ae's to hit more mobs if they are all not in range. The other choice is aftershock that parses horrible.
    2. I use sanguine on pull and pretty much whenever its up, try to have it is up for when fc is ready. Not sure what other locks do but thats what I do.
    3. EV and bolster are the buffs I look for, I don't get ut as I am spec'd for it and it benefits our furies more because they don't have the option to spec for it.
    4. This is the most important part to be able to parse well, you have to time your tw rotation well. An easy way to know when tw is ready to be cast is with spellbind as they are on the same timer and should be used together. On single target I cast pb with less than 1s left on tw prep and on ae i cast blast of devastation with less than 1.5s left on tw prep.
    5. Acid rain and netherlord are not really crucial for single target parses however on ae fights acid rain is awesome especially when timed correctly with tw.
    6. If your not using the essence of duality ethereal I'd save it for tw. For start of single target fight debuff mob skull focci cast netherlord and acid rain, by this time illy should be casting tw hit spellbind and salvo charm if you have it when less than 1s is left on tw prep hit pb than fc in the middle of pb cast. followed by apoc rift tox than go down fc tw rotation. When thats all done go through your priority order ( I'm not going over that as that would be alot of writing and you said you have it down ). You will get a set of pb and apoc off when tw is down when apoc and pb come up again save it for tw and save increments for tw. when tw is casted go through tw rotation pb less than 1s left on tw prep etc. rinse and repeat. If your illy does not cast tw on cooldown and holds it for some reason than it sucks to be you.

Last but not least a well played conjy is not a t2 dps they are t1 and can top parse and be in top 5 easily.

I am guessing Mogrim has not updated his guide or you have not read it recently? I noticed easy fix mistakes such as taking reaction over ae auto when you should have put points into ae auto over reaction. You could also put ae auto adorns on you legs and forearms. Put screams of battle over overbearing onslaught. You could replace magnitude with something else but thats completely up to you and if your guild can get the cloak adorns or not.

Even then, Mogrim's proile is open and I am sure he would answer any of your questions.

Veta: My guide was updated within the last few weeks. It's reliable atm.

    1) What is the role of Volatility?

Volatility gives you extra range/radius while debuffing the mob's range/radius. This does not matter too much, however it does give you a little extra flexibility when it comes to Dark Siphoning hitting your entire group, which is key to charging increments.

    2) When is the best time to use Sanguine?

Ideally, 30 seconds prior to going into your big rotation, so that it's recast will sync up with the next big rotation, etc.

    3) Other than UT, what other buffs should I be asking from my group members?

You should spec for self UT on the Dragon AA page. You don't have to give up much to get it, and this will allow UT to go on the troub or healer in your group. The gains they'll get from getting UT are more than what you lose for slightly tweaking your AA to get it. In addition, you're also not boned if your troub finds a way to die. You do want to get EV from your chanter, and Bolster from the Mystic in raid. If you're not the top DPS though, you'll have to earn these.

    4) (Summarized) How do I make my TW/FC rotation better?

Ideally, you cast Netherlord about 20 seconds before the TW/FC rotation, so it is into its "harder-faster" pulses for the TW/FC rotation. You cast Dark Infestation/Acid Rain as soon as the Illy Macro for Time Warp goes off. Then you use temps, and line up Plaguebringer. All that is essentially to improve how many spells you get off in a TW/FC rotation is to land Plaguebringer right as Time Warp activates (this takes timing). Realize you can "toggle on" FC mid cast as well, which you also want to right before Plaguebringer lands, as well. Then you should have plenty of time to land the following 4-5 spells, in this order, doing exactly this: Plaguebringer hits, your toon starts backing up to be at 20m range. Insta cast Rift before being out of Rift range, continue backing up. Insta cast Apocalypse and reach your 20m range. Hit Unda and start running back in. Insta cast Concussive Blast while running back in, and then hit Thunderclap at 14m and follow up with Chains. Then cycle through whatever is most efficient that is up (at this point, it should be Acid).

    5) (Summarized) What's the best strategy for my swarm pets (Acid Rain, Broodlings, Netherlord)

This is partially answered above. The efficiency of these spells is such that I would ONLY line them up with Time Warp. If you have a Time Warp cycle and they were't available, you essentially wasted efficiency by using them during non-peak times. Combat logs will show if your swarm pets are dying.

    6) (Summarized) How should my dps flow be as a Warlock? Specifically when it comes to Plaguebringer and my 180 increment nuke.

If you're doing everything perfectly and lag is good, it IS possible to cycle spells fast enough to hit during TW, hit once after TW, and be fully charged for the next TW. This is very difficult but it IS possible. If you're struggling to do so, remember that your increment nuke is still massively efficient at 108/144 increments, and don't be shy to "aim" to blow the nuke at that level so that you can be at 180 for the TW. Plaguebringer's reuse works well enough that if you time it right, you can get it off once between Time Warps and you'll be ready for the next one. Same goes with Apocalypse.

    Hope these answers helped!

Holy crap, i honestly wasnt expecting to get the replies that i did. time to go do some serious traiing dummy runs along with a little bit of groupage to put this all into practice.

BTW, i did manage to procure a much better ear to replace the corked studs (Immortal Coil w/finisher on it). Also managed to finally find the last piece for the Halter, so I should hopefully see a very small improvement from those as well.

Edit: holy shit the moving thing during TW, that's gonna be tricky to pull off during TW the first few dozen times.
