Re: Volatility
Volatility is a very useful ability for single group content. Our detaunts blow, however fighter classes probably get around 20% of their aggro control from taunts.
Of course its useless in a raid where there's no fighters in your group. But it is very useful for when you're doing raid-quality DPS with a PUG-quality tank in a random instance run.
There's also to consider that volatility is extremely cheap; it only costs 15 points to unlock, and 10 of those points can be into the lovely Enhance: Magi Shielding. 5 points into Interference is useful as well, because in raids its a great tool to trigger procs, and in single groups daze is actually useful.
When they added RoK, the first thing I did with my AAs is respec 70 to the Sorcerer tree, stripping the Warlock tree down to Hastenings plus max Magi Shielding. As I gained more AAs the first thing I did was to cap out Volatility, because it was so easy, and secondly I got props back.
Now that I'm approaching the cap again, I've respecced for Hastenings/Props/Aftershocks for raiding. But for single group content, I really do miss magi shield+volatility; not because my deaggros are useful, but rather because tanks cannot handle my AE dps with a full dps spec. (Even when there's a bard+chanter in the group)
Another thing to consider is that a fully enhanced magi shielding lets you use a bloodthirsty choker with impunity. So you can think of those 10 points as a type of Brainstorm. There is a lot of mage gear in RoK that procs detaunts, which has helped Volatility become more useful as well.
