Gearwise it seems like the best bet is to get as much base spell damage as possible (not very many options in the game atm), then max out spell damage, then go for spell haste and crits. The greater your spell haste the more times spell damage is applied, so those two synergize very well. However, spell damage is fairly easy to cap out so once you do that crits are a better idea.
I use a rough approximation of the formulas bandied around in that thread. I'm working with 1 base = 2 cast = 3 recast = 3 crit = 40 SD right now, assuming that SD is not capped on any of your spells. I've started capping the low end of some of my dots and dissolve, so I've been thinking about jacking up the SD value to 50.
At the really high end things are a bit different. If you have a crapload of spell haste old proc gear becomes viable again. And the usefulness of crits decreases against high con mobs such as OJs in VP.
